REPORTS TO: Shop Supervisor or Team Lead, as assigned
FUNCTION: Responsible for painting process, including mixing of paint, preparation, and application. Materials to be painted include various metals, particularly carbon steel. Maintain inventories of paint. Perform other work as directed.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Applies undercoat and finish coat using a wide variety of sprayed and brushed coatings. Mixing and application techniques are well established. Follow Manufacturer Data Sheets. Thins paints to proper consistency and viscosity for spraying or brush applications. Adjusts & maintains equipment to obtain the finish requirements. Does grinding, body filling, sanding, and masking of material to prepare for painting. Work is subject to final inspection. Consistently high quality with very little touchup or rework is expected.
Schedule workflow in the Paint Department to optimize productivity and efficiency while maintaining quality. Maintain and keep equipment and area in a safe, organized, and clean condition.
Painting is a full-time position. It is combined with other work in accordance with the individual painter's skills and experience. When not performing painting work, will be assigned to other work. Frequently lifts materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Operates cranes to lift/move items weighing over 50 pounds.
Observes company safety rules. During production hours, uses personal protective equipment (PPE) and additional protective equipment required for special assignments. A beard is not permitted when wearing the fitted respirator while painting; does not apply when using the supplied air hood.
Performs grit blasting and wears company furnished protective clothing and air helmet while blasting.
Does other work as supervisor requires.
