Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is looking for someone to join our Process Engineering team in Manufacturing Operations as a Process Engineering Technician I in West Lafayette, Indiana. Must be willing and able to travel during the first 4-6 months of employment for training, totaling approximately 8-12 weeks in two-week increments.

As a Process Engineering Technician I, you’ll provide immediate technical support to manufacturing and clarify production process specification requirements to ensure accurate and efficient production.

A typical day as a Process Engineering Technician I might include:

  • Assisting in measuring and improving yield, efficiency, and capacity of manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Documenting, modifying, and maintaining manufacturing related procedures.
  • Managing the procurement of assembly process tools.
  • Training operators and support staff as needed.
  • Learning and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operation, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

This job might be for you if:

  • You have a two-year technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with the manufacturing equipment relevant to the role
  • You have basic computer skills including familiarity with windows-based programs such as Microsoft productivity tools (e.g., Excel, Word, SQL)
  • You have strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • You can learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
  • You can work cooperatively in a team environment.

It is a plus if you have:

  • Experience troubleshooting process and machinery problems.
  • Experience writing and/or conducting Design of Experiments.
  • Experience programming and maintaining automated manufacturing equipment and machinery.
  • Experience preparing materials cross-sections for microscopic analysis.
  • Working knowledge of basic analog and digital electronics.

Pay Range: $32.88 – $48.60 per hour

We set starting pay based on job-related factors such as your experience, training, knowledge, and skills. We are looking to fill this position at the Tech I level, and we welcome applicants with a range of experience. Depending on your background, we may consider you for a different level, with compensation aligned accordingly.

Process Engineering Technician I: $32.88 – $48.60 per hour

Process Engineering Technician II: $35.83 – $52.94 per hour

Process Engineering Technician III: $40.50 – $59.85 per hour
