We are currently seeking a Commercial Construction Assistant Controller.  The Assistant Controller plays a key role in supporting the company’s accounting operations by assisting with the preparation of financial reports, maintaining accounting records, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Reporting to the Controller or the Vice President of Accounting and Finance, the Assistant Controller will help oversee day-to-day accounting functions, support the month-end and year-end closing processes, provide financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting. This position provides an opportunity to gain valuable experience and take on increasing responsibility in financial management within the company. The core areas of responsibility are listed below, however other duties and responsibilities may be required to meet business needs and objectives.Â
Requirements
Financial Reporting and Accounting Support:
• Help oversee month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring that all accounting records are accurate, complete, and reconciled.
• Assist with financial reporting to ensure timely submission of financial documents for internal and external stakeholders, including leadership and auditors.
• Ensure accurate and complete accounting records are maintained, including general ledger entries and journal entries.
Accounts Payable and Receivable Management:
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring that invoices, payments, and receipts are processed in a timely manner.
• Assist in reconciling vendor statements, ensuring that accounts are current and discrepancies are resolved.
• Help manage the collection of outstanding invoices, assisting with communication with clients and vendors to ensure timely payments.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
• Support the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts by assisting with data collection and analysis.
• Help track and monitor budget-to-actual performance, providing variance analysis and insights to the Controller or Vice President of Accounting and Finance.
• Assist with the preparation of financial forecasts and projections, analyzing business trends and assisting with decision-making.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
• Assist in maintaining internal controls, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data and safeguarding company assets.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with company standards, tax laws, and regulatory requirements.
• Help prepare documentation for external audits and ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting standards.
Cash Flow and Financial Analysis:
• Assist in managing cash flow, ensuring that the company maintains sufficient liquidity for operations.
• Help analyze financial data and provide support for financial decision-making, including cost-benefit analysis, profitability analysis, and cash flow projections.
• Support financial modeling and scenario analysis to assist with strategic planning and resource allocation.
Team Collaboration and Leadership Support:
• Work closely with the Controller and other members of the accounting team to ensure smooth and efficient accounting operations.
• Provide support to senior leadership, including the Controller or Vice President of Accounting and Finance, in preparing financial reports, presentations, and other key documents.
• Assist in training and mentoring junior accounting staff to enhance their skills and ensure adherence to accounting standards and best practices.
Tax Compliance and Regulatory Support:Â
- Support the Controller, Vice President of Finance, and internal team members responsible for tax filings by providing requested financial data, documentation, and reports to support timely and accurate filings.Â
- Assist with communications and information requests from external tax professionals and support tax audits and other regulatory compliance activities as needed.
Required Skills and Abilities:
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, including GAAP and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Proficient in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
• Experience with financial reporting, accounts payable/receivable, and general ledger management.
• Excellent attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all accounting records.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics).
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with experience in financial reporting and analysis.
• 1+ year minimum experience in managing accounts payable and receivable, as well as general ledger activities.
- Â Â Â Â Â Â Firm understanding of the fundamental accounting principals.
• Experience with accounting software and financial reporting tools.Â
• Knowledge of tax regulations and compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred.  An AA in in Accounting or closely related field while working to finish a bachelor's degree will be considered.Â
- Â Â Â Â Â Â Construction accouting experience preferred
- Â Â Â Â Â Â Public accounting experience in auditing preferred
• CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CPA eligible or equivalent certification preferred.
• Experience in the construction or mechanical contracting industry is highly desirable.
• Ideally knowledge of project accounting and job cost systems in the construction industry.
• Experience with ERP systems used in construction or contracting, such as Viewpoint or Procore.
