The Pipe Yard Machinist is responsible for machining, repairing, inspecting, and preparing drill pipe, tubular products, and related oilfield equipment for customer orders and field operations. A primary function of this role is the machining, reconditioning, and quality inspection of drill pipe threaded connections to ensure compliance with customer specifications, API and ISO standards, and company quality requirements. This position operates manual and CNC machine tools, threading equipment, and material handling equipment while supporting safe and efficient pipe yard operations.


Duties and Responsibilities: 


  • Set up and operate lathes, mills, threading equipment, saws, and other machining equipment.
  • Machine, repair, and recondition drill pipe threaded connections, including API and proprietary thread forms.
  • Perform thread chasing, shoulder repairs, refacing, and restoration of pin and box connections to required specifications.
  • Inspect drill pipe threads and connections using API thread gauges, micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Verify thread profiles, taper, lead, stand-off, shoulder dimensions, and other critical measurements meet quality requirements.
  • Identify and evaluate thread damage, galling, wear, washouts, and other conditions affecting drill pipe serviceability.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, specifications, and machining drawings.
  • Maintain accurate inspection, repair, and production records.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, staging, and movement of pipe and equipment within the yard.
  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and material handling equipment as authorized.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machinery and work areas.
  • Ensure all work meets company quality standards, customer requirements, and applicable industry specifications.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and yard personnel to meet operational deadlines.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, environmental requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
