JOB SUMMARYÂ Â
 As School Nurse with The Fedcap School, you'll be a key member of a dedicated, robust team of professionals providing a holistic approach to education and support for 65 students with disabilities. You will participate in ensuring a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for all students as part of our Wrap Around Model that ensures a team focus to support and reinforces positive development in all areas of our students' lives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond to medical emergencies, administering first aid and assessing students for illness, including determining the potential of contagious conditions that require immediate treatment and isolation from other students.Â
- Administer medication to students with ongoing health conditions such as diabetes, asthma, seizure disorders, etc.
- Conduct mandated screenings of vision, hearing, and height/weight.
- Implement care plans for students with physical and emotional disabilities, ensuring that appropriate accommodations are made in accordance with Federal law.
- Maintain accurate medical records, including updates of all immunizations and health screenings.
- Train school staff on a variety of health issues, and serve on school and district committees to address student behavior and achievement.
- Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations regarding school health subject areas and make recommendations for changes when necessary.
- Function as an ambassador for The Fedcap GroupÂ

QUALIFICATIONS
- Current New Jersey registered professional nurse license (RN) and Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN).
- School Nurse Certificate from the New Jersey Department of Education including coursework in special education, public health, school nursing, and child/adolescent development and clinical experience in a supervised school nurse practicum.
- CPR and AED certification.
- Naloxone training and familiarity with New Jersey law regarding use of naloxone as part of a school district’s emergency response plan.Â
- Two (2) years’ experience working in a school setting is strongly preferred.

The Fedcap School, an accredited private school located in West Orange, New Jersey, is the premier Behavior Modification Middle & High School for students with disabilities classified as Emotional Regulation Impairment (ERI) in Essex County. We serve students ages 13-21 from Essex, Union, Hudson, Passaic, Monmouth and Atlantic Counties. We provide a holistic approach that meets the individual needs of each student, and our ratio of staff to students is 2:8, which allows small group instruction with environment most suited to support the students' Individual Educational Goals. What we do works! 100% of our students graduate with a New Jersey High School Diploma, and as many as 60% continue their education after graduation in either technical training or college with the remaining 40% going directly to employment.
