Position Overview
The Director of Energy Infrastructure is responsible for the planning, development, engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of all owner-controlled energy infrastructure supporting hyperscale, AI/HPC, and mission-critical data center campuses.
This executive leadership role oversees onsite power generation, substations, high-voltage electrical infrastructure, natural gas systems, battery energy storage, renewable energy integration, microgrids, and emerging technologies including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). The Director ensures that all energy infrastructure is delivered safely, reliably, on schedule, and at the lowest lifecycle cost while supporting aggressive development timelines.
Working closely with Development, Utility Interconnection, Engineering, Preconstruction, EPC contractors, utilities, equipment OEMs, and Operations, the Director establishes the long-term power generation strategy for multi-gigawatt data center portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
Energy Infrastructure Strategy
路 Develop the long-term energy infrastructure / power generation strategy supporting a portfolio of hyperscale AI and cloud data centers.
路 Evaluate centralized versus distributed generation solutions.
路 Develop scalable infrastructure standards for campuses ranging from 100 MW to 2+ GW.
路 Evaluate lifecycle cost, reliability, carbon intensity, and operational flexibility across competing technologies.
路 Support site selection by evaluating energy infrastructure opportunities and constraints.
Onsite Power Generation
Lead development and execution of onsite generation projects, including:
路 Natural gas reciprocating engine plants
路 Simple-cycle gas turbine facilities
路 Combined-cycle power plants
路 Dual-fuel generation systems
路 Backup generation systems
路 Black start capability
路 Island mode operations
路 Future hydrogen-ready generation
路 Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)
Responsibilities include technology selection, owner's engineering oversight, EPC management, permitting support, commissioning, and operational readiness.
Electrical Infrastructure
Provide executive oversight of:
路 Utility delivery substations
路 Owner-owned substations
路 Medium-voltage distribution systems
路 High-voltage switchyards
路 Gas-insulated substations (GIS)
路 Air-insulated substations (AIS)
路 Main transformers
路 Generator step-up transformers

Fuel Infrastructure
Lead development of:
路 Natural gas pipeline interconnections
路 Pressure regulation stations
路 Metering facilities
路 Gas compression (where applicable)

路 Hydrogen readiness assessments
路 Fuel supply agreements
Coordinate with pipeline operators, local distribution companies (LDCs), and interstate transmission providers.

Oversee evaluation and implementation of:

EPC & Project Delivery
Lead all owner-side activities related to power generation EPC contracts.

Qualifications
Education
路 Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related technical field.
路 Master's degree or MBA preferred.
路 Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Experience
路 12+ years leading development or delivery of large energy infrastructure projects.
路 Experience delivering projects exceeding $250 million in capital value.
路 Direct experience with utility-scale power generation, substations, transmission infrastructure, or large industrial energy systems.
路 Experience supporting hyperscale data centers, utilities, IPPs, EPC firms, or major industrial facilities.
路 Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams.
