GENERAL DESCRIPTIONÂ
Under the direction of a supervisor incumbent observes and reports in addition to performing a wide variety of security duties including the protection of property, crime detection, and public safety at the Port. Â This class is characterized by the use of independent judgment in the application of security principles, and knowledge of laws in responding to emergency or difficult situations. Â
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Checks vehicles and passengers at the Port’s main entrance for proper identification; directs activities on site until relieved by superior officer; controls traffic; ensures general public safety.
- Patrols Port and detects and prevents unsafe activities by surveillance of assigned Port areas.
- Investigates accidents in assigned area and assists other officers.
- Enforces traffic laws and vehicle codes and promotes trafÂfic safety; notes illegal or unsafe driving practices and advises as appropriate; directs traffic, and otherwise promotes vehicular and pedestrian safety.
- Prepares a variety of reports related to Port security, accidents, and other duties; maintains logs, comÂpletes forms, and prepares dispositions and reports as requested.
- Provides a variety of related security services.
- Assists local, state and Federal public safety agencies.
- Logs in all ship arrivals, departures and movements & water readings.
- Maintains water usage records.Â
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSÂ
- High school diploma, GEDÂ
- Two (2) year of experience in security work or equivalent public contact work.
 (A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license. Â
- State of Florida “D” License as a Security Officer.
- Be able to obtain Port TWIC Badge
