Whipple Service Champions is expanding our underground division and seeking experienced utility excavators who know how to safely expose, trench, and support repairs on water, sewer, and other buried service lines. If you’ve spent your time digging around live utilities, identifying line paths, and operating excavation equipment with precision, this role is built for you.

Underground Excavation Technician Duties: 

• Utility excavation — Safely expose water, sewer, and drain lines using hand digging and equipment
• Equipment operation — Run mini‑excavators, backhoes, skid steers, and trenchers for utility access
• Trenching for utilities — Dig accurate, safe trenches for repair and replacement projects
• Support plumbing crews — Assist with pipe replacement, spot repairs, and underground service work
• Safety compliance — Follow trenching, shoring, confined‑space, and utility‑locate procedures
• Maintain equipment, jobsite cleanliness, and documentation
• Provide respectful, professional communication when interacting with homeowners

What We’re Looking For

• Underground utility excavation experience — Water, sewer, drainage, or service‑line exposure
• Precision digging around live utilities
• Heavy equipment operation — mini‑excavators, backhoes, skid steers
• Ability to work in trenches, confined spaces, and all weather conditions
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Strong work ethic and commitment to safe utility excavation practice
• Prior experience supporting plumbing or underground repair crews
• Knowledge of utility locating, shoring, and trench safety standards

Requirements: 

• 1+ year utility‑focused excavation experience

• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work outdoors in all conditions

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn underground utility work

• Ability to work in trenches and confined spaces
