Job Summary
The Commissions Analyst will own and administer our commissions platform (CaptivateIQ), design and maintain compensation and quota plans, and analyze plan effectiveness to drive sales performance. This role partners closely with Sales, Finance, and Revenue Operations to ensure accurate, timely, and motivating commission payouts. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, commissions software expertise, and the ability to communicate complex compensation structures clearly to stakeholders across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Commissions Software Administration
- Own day-to-day administration, configuration, and maintenance of CaptivateIQ, ensuring accurate and timely commission calculations.
- Build, test, and deploy commission plan logic within CaptivateIQ, including attainment calculations, accelerators, SPIFs, and adjustments.
- Troubleshoot commission discrepancies and resolve payee inquiries in a timely manner.
- Partner with IT and Revenue Operations to manage data integrations between CaptivateIQ and upstream systems (CRM, ERP, Snowflake).
Compensation & Quota Plan Development
- Develop, document, and administer sales compensation plans and quota frameworks in alignment with business objectives.
- Collaborate with Sales Leadership and Finance to design competitive and motivating commission structures, accelerators, and SPIF programs.
- Manage the annual and mid-year quota-setting process, ensuring accuracy across all covered roles and territories.
- Maintain plan documentation, letters of agreement (LOAs), and audit trails for compliance.
Analysis & Iteration on Plan Effectiveness
- Analyze commission plan performance, payout trends, and quota attainment to identify opportunities for plan optimization.
- Model the financial impact of proposed plan changes and SPIFs, presenting findings and recommendations to Finance and Sales leadership.
- Build and maintain dashboards and reports (Power BI preferred) that provide visibility into commission spend, attainment distributions, and earnings trends.
- Write and maintain SQL queries (Snowflake preferred) to extract, validate, and analyze compensation data from source systems.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the primary point of contact for commission-related questions from Sales, Finance, HR, and Payroll.
- Partner with Payroll to ensure commission amounts are accurately processed within payroll deadlines.
- Communicate compensation plan details clearly to payees and managers, producing easy-to-understand summaries and FAQs.
Skills & Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in sales commissions, sales compensation, or a related analytical role.
- Hands-on experience designing, administering, or analyzing sales compensation and quota plans.
- Experience with commission software implementation and/or administration (CaptivateIQ a plus).
- Proficiency in SQL for data extraction and analysis (Snowflake a plus).
- Strong attention to detail and comfort working with large datasets and complex calculations.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex compensation mechanics to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred
- Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM platforms for territory and quota management.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar) for building commission dashboards.
- Experience in the insurance industry or a similarly complex, commission-driven sales environment.
- Knowledge of commission accounting principles and SOX compliance requirements.
