Position Overview

Kiewit Power Delivery is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to support the successful execution of large-scale transmission, substation, and utility infrastructure projects across North America. This role serves as a key leader within the project team, responsible for driving project controls, coordinating engineering and construction activities, managing client expectations, and supporting the overall delivery of complex EPC and construction projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in power delivery construction, including high-voltage transmission lines, substations, switchyards, and utility infrastructure. This individual will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Field Engineers, and clients to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead project engineering efforts on large, complex power delivery construction projects.
  • Manage project controls including budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, scheduling, and productivity analysis.
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, subcontractors, and client stakeholders.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and design packages.
  • Lead management of RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, work plans, and execution strategies.
  • Monitor project performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce risk, and control costs.
  • Support contract administration and construction planning activities.
  • Collaborate with field leadership to resolve technical and operational challenges.
  • Assist with client presentations, project reporting, and executive-level updates.
  • Mentor and develop Project Engineers, Field Engineers, and entry-level construction professionals.
  • Promote and maintain Kiewit's commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of construction, project engineering, or project management experience.
  • Experience supporting transmission, substation, utility, renewable energy, or industrial EPC projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, project controls, scheduling, and cost management.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Ability to develop relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and project teams.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, and project management software.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and relocate based on project assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience supporting high-voltage transmission or substation construction projects.
  • Experience on projects ranging from 69kV to 765kV.
  • Knowledge of EPC project delivery and utility owner requirements.
  • Experience with change management, forecasting, earned value reporting, and contract administration.
  • Previous leadership experience mentoring engineers and field personnel.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or advanced construction management certifications are a plus.
