Description

Position Summary:

The Mortgage Loan Underwriter is responsible for performing initial underwriting analysis of 1-4 family mortgage and HELOCs to M2 standards and regulatory guidelines. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Analyze information to determine risk involved in lending money for mortgage loans, income, assets, credit and any supporting documentation to ensure sufficient to loan standards, including FNMA/FHLMC and non-agency guidelines.
  2. Uses their 5-7 years of experience in making the initial credit decision to approve, deny or suspend moderately complex loans in following Regulation B regulatory requirements.
  3. Provides support to Junior and Senior Underwriters, including review of PTC conditions, appraisals, copying and submission of loan files to MI.
  4. Reviews all borrower and non-borrower conditions to determine that they satisfy the requirements to issue a clear-to-close.
  5. Responds to inquiries from others to clarify requirements and resolve issues.
  6. Submits and analyze findings of AUS and other vendors.
  7. Complies with all applicable banking laws and regulations, including, but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act, and related anti-money laundering statutes, and federal consumer protection legislation and regulations.
  8. Other duties as required.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. 5 to 7 years mortgage loan experience is required.
  2. Experience with lending laws, regulations and guidelines is required.
  3. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.
  4. Proficiency working in lending systems including Encompass, Cleartouch, OnBase, various government and investor software/web portals is preferred. Credit reporting sites, USPS address verification search, personal and business name search websites are preferred.
  5. High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Physical Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift, walk, stand, sit, bend, reach with hands and arms, climb, push/pull, use hands, and see, hear and speak.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • This position is performed in an office setting, five days a week with typical work hours being 8.30a through 5.15p.
  • This position may be eligible for hybrid work.
