As part of the Materials & Process Engineering department within the Space and Missions Systems sector, you’ll join a group of driven professionals who design the products and systems that support enhanced military capabilities, protect national security, and keep critical information and infrastructure secure.

We are looking for a temporary full time Materials & Process Engineering Assistant to add their skills to our team supporting the development of new designs and also supporting a highly vertically integrated production environment. This is a dynamic job working across numerous engineering and manufacturing disciplines on products that range from the F-35 fighter aircraft, the AMRAAM missile to the Orion Spacecraft for NASA’s Artemis Mission.

The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. What You’ll Do:
  • Interpret laboratory test results and develop conclusions for a variety of analytical techniques possibly including thermal analysis, infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, gas chromatography, digital microscopy, high vacuum, and mechanical testing for use in modeling, etc.
  • Help maintain and improve the M&P Engineering's Sharepoint site, which is used to store information on how the department operates and communicates.
  • Develop, evaluate, select and document materials and processes to meet the engineering design requirements for use in a wide variety of environments (aerospace, military, commercial) from demonstration of concept articles through rigorous flight qualified hardware.
  • Define, plan, and implement materials and process investigations and analyses. These materials may include adhesives, composites, lubricants, metals, protective surface finishes, life testing, and environmental testing.
  • Assist senior engineers with drawing review and specify appropriate materials and processes to meet design intents and contract requirements.
  • Analyze data and generate reports on the results of these tests.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non-company locations may be required.


Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor, or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
  • May occasionally work in production work centers where use of protective equipment and gear is required.
  • May access other facilities in various weather conditions.


Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent plus 1 year or more related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead design projects, and apply information obtained from laboratory test data.
  • Some lab experience and understanding how to use and interpret data obtained from analytical equipment, including SEM/EDS, FTIR, XRF, Thermal Analysis, tensile/compression or other acquired knowledge.
  • Ability to use computer and associated software to gather, reduce, and disseminate technical information.
  • Communication skills and presentation skills applicable to various audiences.
  • Some familiarity with NASA, military or industry specifications, especially materials test (e.g. ASTM) procedures.
  • Experience with developing a process, for example, corrosion prevention, paints, coatings, adhesives, or lubrication.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Active DoW secret clearance.
  • Exposure to an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Project organization experience working with estimating and developing cost and schedule estimates for new and existing program support.
  • Working knowledge with Statistical Process Control and statistical analytical methods.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing methods and practices (Kanban method, Kaizen events, etc.).


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $47614 - $76181

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

Temporary employees generally are not eligible for BAE Systems benefits, but can elect to participate in the 401(k) savings plan. Temporary employees working 20+ hours per week are eligible for medical benefits, the employee assistance program, and business travel accident insurance.
