Job Summary: Engage customers in the Exploration Commons Makerspace and Teaching Kitchen and assist with their general needs in person or on the phone. Assists in the implementation of instructional programming for ages eight and up for the makerspace and the teaching kitchen. Facilitates and manages use of the meeting rooms, support clerical and administrative functions, and performs other duties as assigned. Essential Functions: Incorporates excellent customer service skills and finds solutions to Exploration Commons related questions. Plans, prepares, presents, or assists in training on Exploration Commons resources (makerspace, kitchen, and meeting rooms) for individuals and groups, ensuring safe operation. Assists with or conducts programs in the makerspace, kitchen, or meeting rooms on a variety of topics. Assists with program setup and cleanup including ingredient and material preparation, dishwashing, and wiping down of equipment. Assists with general customer service activities including greeting customers and answering questions in person and by phone. Operates all audiovisual equipment in all meeting rooms. Assists in the creation of content and examples to showcase applications of resources at Exploration Commons. Serves on committees and participates in workshops, seminars, and training as requested. Learns new skills and technologies to retain proficiency in areas of expertise via online and in-person training. Assists in the troubleshooting of kitchen and makerspace equipment. Maintains high quality standards of products and services. Performs other duties as instructed and assigned. QualificationsRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Commitment to excellent customer service. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Must be a self-starter and motivated to learn new technologies. Ability to learn kitchen responsibilities and operate all equipment. Ability to learn the use of all equipment located in the makerspace. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all staff. Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize. Must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends as needed. Education and Experience: High School diploma/G.E.D. and 1-2 years directly related experience; Associates degree or college coursework in a related field preferred. Six months or more customer service or retail experience required. Instructional experience preferred. Familiarity with makerspace and/or commercial kitchen equipment. Highly effective communicator via email, telephone, and in person. Or equivalent technical training, education, and experience.
