We’re hiring an Engineering Manager to join County Prestress in Westmont, IL.

 

Job Summary:
The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and developing the engineering team while ensuring projects are completed efficiently, accurately, and in alignment with company standards. This role works closely with the Design Manager, Project Management, Sales, Estimating, and related project teams to support successful project planning, design coordination, and execution.

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the calculation group, including workload planning, project assignments, and team performance.
  • Plan and organize departmental resources to meet project schedules, deadlines, and business priorities.
  • Maintain a positive, collaborative work environment and support high morale among department employees.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote effective collaboration practices across project teams.
  • Participate in the development of project plans, including expected outcomes, risks, contingency plans, and required resources.
  • Monitor project progress, communicate potential risks, and provide timely updates to stakeholders with varying levels of involvement.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of project frameworks, project management concepts, reporting standards, tools, techniques, and best practices.
  • Monitor and maintain job budgets, as well as the overall engineering team budget.
  • Review and approve design documents prepared by others to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards.
  • Conduct detailed technical studies, including stress analysis, process flow simulations, and related engineering evaluations.
  • Implement resolutions and action plans based on root cause analysis reports and related research.
  • Participate in brainstorming activities to identify contributing factors and root causes of engineering challenges.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and resolve design-related risks, issues, and challenges.
  • Provide recommendations to mitigate risks associated with design, drafting, manufacturing, and related project processes.
  • Support continuous improvement by applying lessons learned, technical findings, and best practices to future projects.
  • Collaborate effectively with Sales, Design Customers, Pre-Construction, Estimating, Project Management, Production, Erection, and other project stakeholders.
  • Perform and / or assist with pre-engineering tasks associated with Sales and Estimating.
  • Work closely with production and erection teams to ensure product design and detailing are efficient, practical, and aligned with project needs.
  • Provide design assistance to Sales as needed and estimate costs for drafting and design scope on upcoming projects.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • BS in Civil Engineering, MS Preferred
  • Minimum 8+ years (highly preferred 10 years) of precast prestressed concrete design experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of related management experience in the prestress / precast industry
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in written form
  • Must be well-versed in building codes such as IBC, and reference standards such as ACI, ASCE, and PCI
  • Licensed Professional Civil Engineer in Illinois, WI, IN, or ability to obtain (S.E. a plus)

  • Work is typically performed in an Indoor environment.
