Job Description

The Assistant  Plant Manager is accountable for planning, directing, and coordinating all manufacturing activities. Leads focus on continuous plant improvement to meet manufacturing objectives with emphasis on customer quality and customer service. Ensure proper coordination of daily operations through monitoring of performance measures and communication with plant management personnel. 
The position’s emphasis is to provide direct supervision and leadership of a continuous manufacturing operation (performance, quality, production efficiency, customers, and employee relations).

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Directs forming, batch & furnace, process, selecting, carton assembly, materials management, quality and service, and plant engineering through plant manager.
  • Works with appropriate plant management and engineering personnel to develop a plan for process improvement in the plant. Includes technological improvements, training to improve employee skills, and identifying opportunities to reduce costs.
  • Reviews the performance of subordinates and holds them accountable for achieving plant goals.  Defines performance measures.
  • Performs Advanced Quality System responsibilities in accordance with the AOQ manual to ensure performance to ISO Standards & corporate AOQ policy.
  • Works with plant supervision to maintain good employee relations. Promotes and supports team building and employee empowerment. Ensures good plant communications.
  • Responsible for Labor Relations in the plant; attends third-step grievance meetings as the Company representative and communicates the Company’s response. Maintain communication with the International Union representative. Ensures adherence to Labor Contract.
  • Works with sales personnel and customers to maintain familiarity with customer operations. Informs sales personnel of production problems and provides support to quality and service functions. Make customer visits as necessary.
  • Reviews operating reports, budgets, cost objective performance, product P&L’s, etc. Discusses performance and approve corrective action with subordinate department supervisors and affected department employees.
  • Ensures timely & accurate production forecasting

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
8+ years manufacturing experience
 Glass plant experience highly preferred
Proven experience managing and leading others to change and improve technical processes.
Excellent communication and organizational skills

Salary Range:  The expected salary range for this position is between $126,500 - $166,000 and includes a possible 15% quarterly incentive bonus.  Actual pay will be adjusted based upon candidate experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
