Environmental Technician

Wheatland Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, is seeking an Environmental Technician for our facility located in Wheatland, PA.  Reporting to the Environmental/Sustainability Manager, the Environmental Technician will assist and provide support as needed to the local Plant Manager. The Environmental Technician will be responsible for essential duties of operating industrial wastewater treatment systems. This includes laboratory and field tests as directed by the Environmental/Sustainability Manager.  

RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Maintain/complete accurate compliance records for the wastewater treatment systems 

• Monitor and adjust chemical consumptions to maintain effluent water quality  

• Maintain chemical inventory and coordinate chemical deliveries 

• Maintain chemical feed systems and address system alarms 

• Operation of the filter press for each system 

• Monitor/communicate system malfunctions to Plant Manager 

• Wastewater treatment area housekeeping duties 

• Maintain hazard/non-hazard waste storage areas and perform weekly waste inspections 

• Sample collection (wastewater effluent and stormwater) 

• Travel to multiple locations within PA/OH area if needed 

• Special projects and other duties as assigned 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 

• The ideal candidate for the Environmental Technician role will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in physicial science or engineering, and at least two years of previous experience in an industrial environment

• Excellent oral and written communication skills 

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 

• Proficient computer skills (word processing and spreadsheets) 

• Flexible schedule and ability to work extra hours and weekends as needed 

• Ability to attend work full-time onsite daily per the posted schedule. 

• Ability to work within a team and with minimal supervision 

• Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills
