Position Summary

The Senior Mechanical (Design) Engineer plans, develops, and conducts engineering and product development projects that are of significant importance to the organization. This role covers all phases of development, including requirements development, project planning, concept development, detailed design, prototyping, testing, transition to production, and aftermarket support.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide planning, reporting, and management in addition to technical implementation. As a senior resource on the team, this role requires the ability to recognize project success across financial, technical, and timeline management responsibilities.

About the Role

In this role, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will develop system architectures for new products and integrated systems, including advanced AC, DC, and hydraulic hoist and winch systems, cargo hooks, and related accessories. The engineer will translate customer needs into equipment and system specifications, conceptual designs, and detailed designs, while applying mechanical engineering principles to analyze forces, moments, and stresses throughout the development process.

The work includes a combination of mechanical and systems engineering services, such as 3D solid modeling, computer-based simulations including FEA, rapid prototyping, testing, and technical documentation. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will also help identify and incorporate advanced materials, material processing techniques, coatings, and surface treatments into next-generation products.

Success in this position requires the ability to develop and execute project plans that ensure compliance with applicable standards and specifications, as well as provide project management support from concept through completion for both in-house and outsourced project work.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate will bring experience developing products in an ISO-9001 or AS9100 quality environment, along with strong experience in design configuration management. Experience developing and fielding complex mechanical and electro-mechanical systems in aerospace or defense is also important for success in this role.

A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required, and advanced degrees are preferred. The role is best suited for someone with approximately 10 years of experience in mechanical and/or systems engineering, as well as strong leadership, teamwork, communication, organizational, project management, presentation, and meeting facilitation skills.

Project management experience is preferred, particularly for candidates with experience using financial and budget-tracking tools.
