Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations
- Assist in overseeing daily workflow for hematology, flow cytometry, Histology, Cytogenetics and/or molecular hematopathology testing
- Help manage turnaround times and prioritize STAT/urgent cases
- Support troubleshooting of instrumentation.
Quality & Regulatory Compliance
- Support compliance with CAP, CLIA, and NYS.
- Developing and enforcing SOPs, quality control (QC), and quality assurance (QA) programs
- Coordinate proficiency testing (PT) participation and support corrective action processes
- Help prepare for and manage inspections/accreditation surveys
- Track and document staff competency assessments and continuing education
Personnel Management
- Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, and day-to-day supervision of medical technologists, technicians, and support staff
- Support performance evaluations and help address performance or disciplinary issues
- Contribute to staff development initiatives and succession planning
- Directly manage the accessioning and client services team, including hiring, training, scheduling, and daily supervision
- Oversee specimen accessioning workflows to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant intake of samples
- Monitor client services operations, including client inquiries, courier/specimen logistics, and issue resolution
- Establish and track performance metrics for the team
- Serve as the escalation point for complex client service issues and coordinate resolution with lab leadership
Technical & Clinical Collaboration
- Act as a liaison between pathologists, hematopathologists, and lab staff
- Assist with validation/verification of new tests, reagents, or instruments
- Support workflows and case sign-out logistics
Administrative & Financial
- Assist in monitoring lab budget, supply inventory, and vendor relationships
- Track productivity metrics and support cost-efficiency initiatives
- Support LIS (Laboratory Information System) updates and workflow improvements
Safety
- Support enforcement of biosafety and OSHA compliance
- Assist with incident reporting and corrective action follow-up
All you need is:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, or related field (required)
- Exceptional communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under time constraints, without close supervision.
- 5+ years of clinical laboratory experience, with significant hematology/hematopathology background
- Preferred, three to five years’ successful managerial experience in laboratory administration and/or healthcare administration.
