RWE’s technical authority for turbomachinery and rotating equipment across development, design procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations. Defining owner requirements, challenges OEM and EPC solutions, resolving complex equipment and performance issues, and translate into reliability, efficiency, and mechanical integrity risk into clear lifecycle cost and investment decisions. Establish scalable technical governance to maximize availability, heat rate, equipment life, and project value.  

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Serve as RWE's technical authority for turbomachinery and rotating equipment across development, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations
  • Define owner requirements, technical specifications, and acceptance criteria to ensure equipment meets performance, reliability, maintainability, and lifecycle cost objectives
  • Lead rotating equipment engineering activities through COD, including equipment selection, technical bid evaluations, design reviews, commissioning support, and performance validation
  • Challenge and influence OEM and EPC solutions, balancing technical risk, operability, reliability, and commercial outcomes
  • Develop and govern fleet-wide reliability, mechanical integrity, inspection, maintenance, and life-cycle management strategies
  • Serve as the primary technical interface with OEMs and suppliers to resolve complex issues, improve performance, and standardize fleet-wide solutions
  • Lead technical due diligence, performance assessments, and root cause investigations for equipment failures, trips, and chronic reliability issues
  • Establish and maintain technical standards, specifications, and best practices for turbomachinery operation, maintenance, modernization, and asset management
  • Drive implementation of Asset Performance Management (APM), condition monitoring, predictive analytics, and digital twins to improve asset availability and reduce lifecycle costs
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and risk-based recommendations that support investment decisions, business objectives, and compliance with applicable industry standards

 

Job Requirements and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field
  • Minimum 7 years in turbomachinery operations or maintenance
  • Demonstrated experience in rotor dynamics, high speed rotating equipment and fatigue thermal stress analysis
  • Strong communication skills for writing, presenting, and working cross functional
  • Technical Leadership & Engineering Judgment:
    • Ability to define owner requirements and evaluate turbomachinery designs, balancing performance, reliability, operability, maintainability, and lifecycle cost
    • Strong engineering judgment in assessing technical risks, design trade-offs, and equipment suitability during project development and execution
  • Technical Standards & Compliance:
    • Working knowledge of applicable industry standards and recommended practices, including ASME PTC-22, API 616, API 617, API 670, and related rotating equipment standards
    • Understanding of commissioning, performance testing, mechanical integrity, and reliability principles for large rotating equipment
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, as well as craft tools such as SAP, APM, RAM analysis
  • Performance & Reliability Management:
    • Experience supporting project development, FEED, EPC execution, procurement, commissioning, and startup activities
    • Ability to evaluate technical proposals, equipment guarantees, and supplier offerings to support investment and procurement decisions
  • OEM & Supplier Management
    • Ability to challenge OEM and EPC assumptions, negotiate technical requirements, and influence equipment design and performance outcomes
    • Experience building effective relationships with OEMs, EPCs, consultants, and service providers
  • Business & Commercial Acumen
    • Ability to translate technical risks, performance opportunities, and reliability considerations into business recommendations
    • Experience assessing lifecycle costs, OPEX/CAPEX trade-offs, risk-adjusted investment decisions, and project economics
  • Cross-Functional Leadership
    • Ability to align Development, Engineering, Construction, Operations, Supply Chain, and external partners around a common technical strategy.
    • Strong influencing skills with the ability to drive decisions without direct authority.
  • Communication & Stakeholder Management
    • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to technical, commercial, and executive audiences
    • Ability to develop trust and credibility with internal and external stakeholders
    • Willingness to travel to project and operating sites as required
  • This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWEA offices and field locations
  • Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in Illinois, California, or New York is $138,000 - $208,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
