Salary: $22.66-25.75 per hour, based on experience
Schedule: Part-Time

Summary:

The Baker is responsible for preparing fresh, appealing, and properly portioned baked goods for residents and guests in accordance with production sheets, standardized recipes, preparation methods, portion control guidelines, time schedules, sanitary standards, and serving procedures. The Baker plays an essential role in enhancing the dining experience through high-quality breads, pastries, desserts, and specialty baked items.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attends daily production meetings, tastings, and menu planning sessions to understand upcoming baking and dessert needs.

  • Prepares a variety of baked goods including breads, rolls, pastries, cookies, cakes, pies, and specialty desserts according to daily menus, food production sheets, and standardized recipes.

  • Prepares baked items for residents with modified diets, ensuring dietary restrictions are followed accurately.

  • Ensures proper proofing, baking, cooling, decorating, and presentation of baked goods.

  • Assists with plating and preparing desserts for service in accordance with portion control and presentation standards.

  • Labels, dates, and stores baked goods and ingredients in compliance with safe food handling and HACCP requirements.

  • Assists with receiving, labeling, and storing bulk baking ingredients and supplies upon delivery.

  • Maintains baking equipment (mixers, ovens, proofers, etc.) and work areas in a clean and orderly condition throughout the shift.

  • Completes required closing and periodic cleaning tasks as assigned.

  • Participates in regular inventory of baking ingredients and supplies.

  • Attends in-service training sessions to remain current in nutrition, safe food handling, baking techniques, and equipment operation.

Knowledge and Skill:

  • Must have excellent verbal skills and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team based environment.
  • Must know how to operate kitchen equipment and use utensils to greatest advantage.
  • Ability to follow diet instructions and menus, know basic methods of preparing food in quantities, and familiar with seasoning requirements

Mental and Physical Requirements:

  • Requires ability to stand and walk short and long distances for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry objects in excess of 25 pounds.
  • Requires bending at knees, twisting from side to side at the waist, and reaching above, below and at shoulder length.
  • The kitchen environment is subject to noise, interruptions and distractions and requires the ability to concentrate and handle a multitude of tasks.
  • High degree of safety awareness as work environment involves potential physical risks that include cuts from utensils, burns, falls due to wet floors, quick temperature changes in and out of refrigeration areas and around steam tables.
