GROUNDS MAINTENANCE WORKER
Location: White Sands Missile Range (WSMR), NM
Position Type: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM
Wage: $17.75 per hour
Position Summary
Under supervision, the Grounds Maintenance Worker performs a variety of grounds maintenance duties required to meet the established grounds maintenance schedule, contract requirements, and quality standards at White Sands Missile Range.
The successful candidate will assist in maintaining improved grounds, desert landscapes, sidewalks, driveways, curbs, and other designated areas in a clean, safe, neat, and professional condition.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience
Minimum of 3 years of experience in grounds maintenance.
Experience with irrigation systems.
Experience operating tractors, mowers, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
Licenses/Certifications
Valid Driver’s License required.
Driving is required for this position.
Background & Security Requirements
This position is subject to federal and company-required background and security screening, which may include:
Office of Inspector General/CMMS Exclusions List check – Required
Driving Record/Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check – Required
Office of Personnel Management/Federal Investigative Services security clearance – Required
General Background Check – Required
FBI Top Secret Clearance – Not Required
New Mexico Department of Health Fingerprinting – Not Required
Employment is contingent upon successfully completing all applicable background, security, and driving record requirements.
Essential Functions
Job-Specific Duties
The Grounds Maintenance Worker will:
Perform grounds maintenance duties in accordance with contract schedules, requirements, and established standards, including:
Mow all improved grounds to maintain a well-manicured appearance.
Edge sidewalks, driveways, street edges, curbs, and other hard-surfaced areas within improved grounds.
Trim areas that are not accessible to mowing equipment.
Remove debris, including general litter and natural debris.
Police and inspect grounds to maintain a neat, clean, and professional appearance.
Maintain desert landscaping in a clean and orderly manner.
Perform weed control as required.
Operate grounds maintenance equipment safely and appropriately, including mowers, tractors, and related equipment.
Assist with irrigation system maintenance and other grounds-related tasks as assigned.
Follow all applicable safety procedures and contract requirements while performing assigned duties.
Accept and complete special projects and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Ability to work outdoors and perform physically demanding grounds maintenance duties.

Physical & Work Environment
This position requires working outdoors and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, wind, dust, and other environmental conditions. The employee may be required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, lift, carry, push, pull, and operate grounds maintenance equipment for extended periods.
Employees are expected to follow all required safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment when performing assigned duties.
