Job Summary:
 The Rental Technician facilitates rental operations at Whitefish Mountain Resort, rotating between boot-fitting, tech-ing skis/snowboards, and cashiering. This position requires willingness to perform any of these functions as needed. Repair experience is preferred, but not required for all staff. The role involves close interaction with the Rental & Retail department, Guest & Information Services, and the Snowsports Center. Candidates must have experience handling money and following accounting procedures. The position also requires selling retail items and providing accurate inventory counts.

Job Relationships:

  • Reports to: Base Lodge/Village Manager
  • Employees Supervised: None

Job Specifications:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Experience in a rental/repair operation preferred
  • Experience in ski and boot repairs preferred
  • Past cashier experience preferred
  • Experience working directly with the public required
  • Knowledge of the ski/snowboard industry preferred
  • Past binding certification training preferred
  • Advocate of excellent guest service, able to handle difficult guests and resolve problems
  • Self-starter, able to work independently with little supervision
  • Able to function effectively with both guests and staff
  • Skiing/snowboarding experience preferred, but not required

Specific Duties:

  • Learn and implement operating procedures for rental/repair forms, cash register operation, open/close procedures, and additional tasks
  • Ensure rental paperwork is completed accurately and filed properly, and all equipment is accounted for at the end of the day
  • Complete and pass all binding manufacturers’ indemnification testing
  • Follow all policies and procedures in rental operation training, including binding tests, settings, proper ski and boot sizing, post-accident reports, rental return process, and maintaining a clean work environment
  • Advocate for the maintenance program
  • Work closely with the Snowsports Center to follow through on the School Group program properly
  • Handle money and cash out accurately at the end of each shift
  • Learn and operate RTP and Aspenware systems accurately and efficiently
  • Sell Lift Tickets, Ski School, and other products as available
  • Work efficiently and safely, providing guests with quality service
  • Knowledge of all safety measures in front and back of shop operations
  • Assist in other activities within Whitefish Mountain Resort to develop teamwork with other departments and associates
  • Work within the framework of Rental & WSI policies and procedures and meet goals

Work Environment:

  • Moderate physical activity required, handling objects up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 30 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to be on one’s feet for extended periods, up to 6-8 hours
  • Includes light to moderate physical activity, including bending, stooping, lifting, etc., on a routine basis
  • Work on weekends, holidays, and some evenings as part of the responsibilities
  • Staff may be asked to work a flexible schedule at either Base Lodge Rental or Village Rental throughout the season and/or work at either location to meet business demands
  • Non-smoking environment

Safety & Wellness:
 All team members must be on constant alert for any unsafe conditions and work behaviors. This involves periodic inspections of work and public areas, with follow-up notification to correct any unsafe conditions or practices at the earliest possible opportunity.
