Forklift Operator Position Summary

Safely perform warehousing responsibilities while using powered equipment, such as a forklift, to load/unload trailers and perform picking/put-away duties. Safely operate forklift to move/build pallets and improve efficiency.

Essential duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand safe operation is a deliverable.
  • Preform equipment pre-inspections and report equipment concerns, deficiencies or problems to Team Leader.
  • Operate forklift in compliance with operating instructions and safety procedures.
  • Understand mechanics and requirements of refueling forklift. 
  • Troubleshoot minor forklift operation issues and perform minor adjustments. 
  • Utilize scanner to locate inventory and maintain inventory tracking.
  • Locate and retrieve products to build pallets manually and/or with powered equipment. 
  • Safley operate equipment while moving pallets. 
  • May use electric or manual pallet jack to move products.
  • Gather and assemble specific customer orders.
  • Regularly lift, move, carry and lower product containers such as boxes that weigh up to 50 lbs. 
  • Complete tasks at a defined, acceptable rate.
  • Build pallet stacking configuration correctly and use shrink wrapping equipment in preparation for product shipment.
  • Place proper labels on pallets and boxes according to company procedure.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping of area and equipment.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned. 

Skills

  • Language: Ability to read, write, speak, and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals in English.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. basic fractions and interpret graphs. 
  • Reasoning: Ability to apply common sense and solve problems involving multiple variables.

Working Conditions

General warehouse environment with moving equipment. While performing this job, employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts or moving equipment.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to lift/lower, push/pull and/or carry up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to drive a forklift, stand or walk for entirety of designated shift. Have dexterity and use hands and fingers. Capable of stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing and balancing. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision and depth perception.
