Description

The Teacher Aide works directly with students with ASD and developmental disabilities. The teacher aide supports the lead teacher and assistant teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool-aged children in our Promise Preschool. The aide assists with daily routines, classroom activities, and supervision to ensure compliance with OCFS and SED regulations and the preschool’s educational philosophy.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Role responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Ā· Participate in classroom maintenance, field trips, feeding, and assist in toileting.

Ā· Assist the lead teacher and assistant teacher in implementing daily activities and lesson plans.

Ā· Assist in the observation of students’ performance, record behavioral data and implement support activities as identified by the teacher

Ā· Assume the duties of float aide when necessary

Ā· Assist in maintaining an organized and clean classroom, including sanitizing toys and surfaces as per OCFS guidelines.

Ā· Will act as an active team member in providing for the well-being, education, and supervision of children

Ā· Oversee the safety and well-being of the individuals.

Ā· Maintain and regularly compile data and documentation to be reviewed by supervisor as required.

Ā· Participate in activities as part of the treatment team that may include meetings, trainings and committees.

Ā· Respond to medical emergencies and log any/all incidents that may occur during working hours.

Ā· Participate in evacuation drills as assigned and complete documentation required.

Ā· Maintain documentation as required.

Requirements

Ā· High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

Ā· At least 1 year of experience preferred.

Ā· Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances are warranted.

Ā· Knowledge of basic computer skills

Ā· This position has regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with individuals receiving services and is required by law to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check under OCFS (Office of Child and Family Services)


An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
