Attention:

The University Center at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Custodian.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for housekeeping duties in assigned areas of UW-Whitewater buildings and maintaining these areas in a safe and sanitary condition. This position reports to the UC Custodial Supervisor and works under the guidance of a UC Custodian Lead. All duties are to be performed in accordance with organizational beliefs and values. Regular attendance is an essential function of the job. This position is designated at Level 1 for risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens. All established safety rules and regulations must be followed, and personal protective equipment must be worn when performing job duties requiring their use.

Responsibilities:


Performance of Related Duties:

  • Clean and maintain equipment and storage areas.

  • Report needed maintenance or repairs to supervisor via work request through Custodian Lead.

  • Move furniture, equipment, supplies, etc. as required.

  • Perform set-ups and tear downs involving movement of equipment in workshops, sports events, etc.

  • Inspect exterior building entrances for trash and dispose of appropriately.

  • Provide snow removal from building entrances and surrounding sidewalks.

  • Strip and refinish floor surfaces as needed.

  • Extract all carpeted areas and clean entry mats.

  • Clean all HVAC grilles in assigned building areas as directed.

  • Operation of powered custodial equipment.

  • Must be authorized to drive University vehicles.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Routine daily maintenance of University Center Complex buildings

  • Clean restrooms, locker rooms, dining, and public use areas.

  • Clean meeting rooms, whiteboards and trays, erasers, etc.

  • Clean and dust office areas.

  • Empty wastebaskets and remove trash from buildings.

  • Replenish supplies as necessary.

  • Vacuum and spot-clean carpet.

  • Sweep and/or dust mop floors.

  • Wet mop or machine scrub floors.

  • Clean hallways, stairwells, and drinking fountains.

  • Clean and sweep entryways and walk off mats; empty ash urns.

  • Wash walls, ceilings, inside windows, and glass building entrances.

  • Replace lamps/bulbs, clean light fixtures, and replace diffusers.

  • Open and secure buildings/rooms.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Team Participation:

  • Function as member of team in special projects (i.e. re-lamping, seasonal cleaning).

  • Function as a team member in problem solving for custodial and other areas.

  • Assist other department/employees as required.

  • Clean areas between events.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
  • Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
  • Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed
  • Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
  • Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables

  • Knowledge of cleaning equipment and materials.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid WI driver’s license
