The Cheer Coordinator Position is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading the Boys & Girls Club cheer program. This role creates a fun, safe, and positive environment where youth develop confidence, teamwork, leadership, discipline, and sportsmanship through cheerleading instruction, performances, and competitions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and lead cheer practices for youth participants.
- Teach cheer motions, chants, jumps, dance routines, stunts, and conditioning using age-appropriate techniques.
- Prepare teams for games, performances, competitions, parades, and community events.
- Foster teamwork, leadership, self-confidence, and positive sportsmanship.
- Maintain a safe environment by following all Club and cheer safety guidelines.
- Supervise participants during practices, events, and off-site activities.
- Communicate with parents regarding schedules, expectations, and program updates.
- Coordinate uniforms, equipment, music, and supplies.
- Track attendance and maintain required program records.
- Collaborate with Club staff to support special events and Club-wide activities.
- Attend required staff meetings and training.
- Serve as a positive role model and uphold the mission and values of the Boys & Girls Club.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 48 college credits or successful completion of an approved equivalency exam.
- At least one year of experience coaching cheerleading or working with youth in a recreation, education, or sports setting.
- Knowledge of cheerleading fundamentals and safety practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate and engage youth in a positive learning environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, families, and community partners.
- Ability to comply with all Club policies and child safety requirements.
- Cheer coaching experience.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and actively participate throughout practices and events.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Ability to demonstrate cheer techniques and movements.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a recreational, gymnasium, and outdoor setting. Evening and weekend hours may be required to support practices, games, competitions, and special events.
Additional Considerations
- Must respond quickly in emergency situations, including basic first aid or emergency relocation.
- Flexibility is required to accommodate changes in weather, scheduling, and site logistics.
