THE OPPORTUNITY

James Lane Mechanical, a proud member of the Fidelity family of companies, is hiring an experienced Fire Sprinkler Technician to install, service, and inspect water-based fire protection systems across North Texas. This is field work for someone who can walk a job, read the drawings, hang the pipe, and stand behind the final test.

Our Fire Protection Division is growing, and we are staffing it with technicians who take pride in clean installations and want to be trusted with their own truck and their own jobs. You will work alongside a licensed RME-G and a project management team that plans the work in advance — so you can focus on doing it right instead of chasing material and answers.

This is a career track, not a stopgap. We pay for the training, certifications, and registrations that move you up.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Install fire sprinkler systems. Lay out, fabricate, and install wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge systems — mains, branch lines, drops, risers, hangers, and heads — per approved shop drawings and NFPA 13.
  • Cut, groove, thread, and hang pipe. Work confidently with grooved, threaded, and where applicable welded pipe, including correct hanger and seismic bracing installation.
  • Test and commission. Perform hydrostatic tests, flushing, trip tests, and final acceptance testing with the AHJ and owner present.
  • Service and troubleshoot. Respond to service calls — leaks, frozen or damaged lines, trouble alarms, valve and backflow issues — and diagnose and repair them on the first trip whenever possible.
  • Perform inspection, testing, and maintenance. Complete ITM on existing systems per NFPA 25, documenting deficiencies clearly and recommending corrective work.
  • Coordinate in the field. Work around other trades in occupied buildings and active construction, and keep the foreman and project manager current on progress and obstacles.
  • Document your work. Turn in accurate daily reports, inspection forms, time, and material usage — legible paperwork is part of the job.
  • Work safe. Follow all company, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements, including hot work permits, fall protection, lockout/tagout, and impairment procedures on occupied systems.

WHAT YOU BRING

Required

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience installing and/or servicing water-based fire sprinkler systems.
  • Current Texas State Fire Marshal’s Office Fire Sprinkler Installer registration — or eligibility to obtain one within 30 days of hire (we sponsor and pay for it).
  • Ability to read and interpret sprinkler shop drawings, isometrics, and hanger and bracing details.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 13 and NFPA 25 fundamentals.
  • Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.

Also Helpful

  • NICET Level I or II in Water-Based Systems Layout or Inspection & Testing.
  • Backflow assembly tester certification (ASSE 5110 / TCEQ) or dedicated ITM experience.
  • Pipe welding certification, or aerial lift, scissor lift, and forklift certifications.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.
  • Experience in healthcare, education, government, or data and telecom facilities, including work in occupied spaces under ILSM or ICRA requirements.
  • Fire pump, standpipe (NFPA 14), or special hazard system experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK CONDITIONS

  • Regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, and team-lift heavier pipe and equipment.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, scissor lifts, and boom lifts at height; climb, kneel, crawl, and work overhead for extended periods.
  • Work in attics, ceiling spaces, mechanical rooms, trenches, and confined spaces, in both conditioned and unconditioned environments.
  • Daily travel to job sites across North Texas; occasional overnight travel on out-of-town projects.
  • Occasional after-hours, weekend, and on-call emergency service work.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive hourly pay with overtime, plus a benefits package built for people who plan to stay.
  • Company vehicle, fuel card, tools, and uniforms for qualifying field roles — you are not buying your own ladder.
  • Health and wellness: comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans covering you and your family, including free preventive care and affordable prescription options.
  • Life and disability insurance: company-paid life and disability coverage, with options to enhance your benefits.
  • Retirement savings: 401(k) with a generous company match and immediate vesting.
  • Paid time off: paid holidays plus a PTO plan that grows with your years of service.
  • Paid training and certification: we cover NICET testing, state registration renewals, and continuing education — and we promote from within as the division grows.
  • Extra perks: flexible spending accounts, employee discounts, and 24/7 confidential support through our Employee Assistance Program.
