ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises, directs and controls assigned department operations within the required framework of schedules, cost control and quality standards.
  • Lead by example, treat all employees with respect, demonstrate excellent communication / facilitation skills
  • Conduct "Toolbox" training sessions.
  • Develop and maintain a team-based performance culture that strives to achieve daily Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost/ Productivity goals.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen, 5S, visual management, standard work, error proofing, one piece flow, Kanban, Total Productive Maintenance.
  • Maintain a safe environment for operators where safety rules are followed, and injuries are minimized.
  • Maintain a "zero defects" quality culture where operators understand their responsibility to produce a quality product; ensure operators stop and fix defects when identified; implement root cause solutions to prevent recurring defects
  • Achieve daily production output goals by following the schedule, managing labor and solving problems / issues that may develop that limit output.
  • Responsible for personnel staffing needs to ensure that work is produced in a prescribed time frame in accordance with company standards.
  • Encourage and manage cross training team members. Maintain training matrix for all employees.
  • Execution of cycle counts to maintain and improve inventory accuracy, order materials for production as needed.
  • Assist in the training, development, motivation, disciplinary action and discharge of employees.
  • Coordinate activities with all production support departments so that a smooth flow continues in the manufacturing process.
  • Keep attendance records and training records on each employee.
  • Ensure your team complies with all company policies (i.e., attendance, safety, security, housekeeping, etc.)
  • Provide constructive feedback to employees to improve performance and address

infractions in a professional and timely manner; document and maintain employee personnel documentation as needed

  • Partner with operators, peers and teams to provide training, coaching and to solve problems
  • Identify improvement opportunities to improve safety, quality, delivery and cost/ productivity/ labor performance.
  • Account for all payroll and labor charges on production management system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Act as a liaison between employee and Human Resources with regard to personnel issues, benefits, payroll and incentives.
  2. Work in the production area when time allows or when necessary to get work done on schedule.
  3. Prepare Performance Appraisals.

AUTHORI1Y:

All personnel are responsible for quality and therefore have the authority to stop production, if necessary to correct quality problems.

 

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Read, write and speak English.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of sewing machines and other equipment in department.
  • Computer literate.
  • Proven ability to work with and direct employees in order to provide proper leadership.
  • Bilingual, Spanish/English, a plus.

 

PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE

 3 to 4 years prior experience in a sewing operation.

Experience as a lead person or previous supervisory experience required.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have 20/20 vision or corrected to 20/20.

Must be able to perceive colors and shades of colors. Must be able to lift 30 - 50 pounds unassisted.

Must be able to stand, walk or sit for entire shift. Must be able to work in moderate noise levels.

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Must be able to bend, reach, twist, stoop, squat and grasp with hands.
