Job DetailsJob Location: WICHITA, KS 67209Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: High SchoolJob Category: ManufacturingPosition Summary: Responsible for managing the tool crib inventory, issuing tools and supplies to machinists by pre-setting and measuring CNC tools, performing basic tool maintenance/sharpening, and ensuring accurate tracking to minimize machine downtime and support efficient production. This role supports CNC mills, lathes, and other machine shop equipment by keeping the right tooling readily available, organized, and in good condition. Essential Job Function: Receive, inspect, store, organize, and issue cutting tools, inserts, holders, fixtures, gages, hand tools, and related supplies to machine operators. Pre-set and measure CNC tools using manual and/or CNC tool presetters and other precision equipment. Assemble, sharpen, or modify tools according to tool setup sheets, blueprints, or work orders. Maintain accurate inventory records and track tool usage for reordering. Inspect tools for wear, damage, or defects; perform basic maintenance, calibration tracking, and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed. Ensure proper storage and organization of the tool crib. Collaborate with machinists, programmers, and supervisors to determine tooling needs for upcoming jobs and reduce setup times. Pull and prepare tool kits or setups in advance based on production schedules. Maintain logs for issued/returned tools and ensure accountability. Support continuous improvement efforts related to tooling efficiency and cost control. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Technical certification, vocational training in machining, or Associate degree in a related field is a plus. Prior CNC or tooling experience is highly desirable. Entry-level candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn may be considered. Familiarity with CNC tooling, tool geometry, inserts, and holders. Experience with tool presetters, micrometers, calipers, height gages, and other precision measuring instruments. Basic knowledge of machining processes (milling, turning, grinding). Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities. Good communication and teamwork skills to interact with machinists and supervisors. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment. Physical ability to lift moderate weights (up to 50 lbs), stand for extended periods, and handle tools safely.
