Communication Coordinator - Full-timeÂ
The Digital Communication Coordinator supports the Marketing & Communication team by developing and executing mission-driven content across digital platforms. This role is responsible for creating engaging, educational, and search engine optimized (SEO) written content, while ensuring consistency in voice, branding, and messaging across the organization’s website, app, email communications, and digital channels.
In addition to external communications, this position plays a key role in strengthening internal communication by managing employee-facing content, including newsletters and intranet updates, and collaborating with staff across departments to ensure accuracy and alignment.
The coordinator also contributes to broader marketing initiatives by providing event coverage, supporting media relations efforts, assisting with digital signage and branding implementation, and delivering responsive, high-quality customer communication. This role requires a detail-oriented and creative communicator who can balance multiple projects while advancing the organization’s mission and enhancing audience engagement.
Primary Functions
Content CreationÂ
- Work within Marketing & Communications team to implement mission-based communication strategy through digital content.
- Write educational blog articles that support SCZ’s mission and promote its SEO strategy.
- Execute copywriting assignments for other marketing tools such as the member newsletter, customer emails, and website.
- Manage ongoing website and app content updates and requests.
- Provide support for photography and videography projects, as assigned.
Internal CommunicationÂ
- Curate content, design, and distribute bi-weekly employee newsletter.
- Coordinate with curators and department supervisors to ensure accuracy of content across all of the Zoo’s channels, both external and internal.
- Maintain employee intranet content.
Marketing & Communications SupportÂ
- Provide engaging coverage of special events and education programming.
- Respond to email inquiries with a high level of customer service in a timely manner.
- Support the Marketing & Communication Director with media relations activities.
- Assist with on-site digital signage management.
- Assist with branding implementation.
Secondary Functions
- Work within the Development Department to support all events and fundraising efforts.
- Represent the Zoo and/or Sedgwick County at various offsite events such as regional, national, and international conferences, meetings, community events, outreach programs, etc.Â
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communication / Integrated Marketing / Journalism / or related field.
- Valid US driver’s license without restrictions.Â

- Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone across audiences.
- Strong editorial judgment and ability to balance informational and storytelling content.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and build relationships across departments.
- High attention to detail with strong proofreading and quality assurance skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and other collaboration tools.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other graphic design tools.
Years of Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in related field.
Working Environment/Conditions
The employee is subject to activities that occur in both inside and outside environments conditions. The employee is subject to potential hazards of working with and near dangerous animals. The employee may be exposed to zoonotic diseases. Employee must be able to work a schedule that involves working weekends, holidays, and after regular work shifts. Â
Physical Requirements
May be required to lift objects up to 50 pounds. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods within indoor and outdoor environments. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: Â preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
