Position Summary

Coordinates and expedites flow of material, parts, and assemblies with suppliers in accordance with production and shipping schedules. Investigates the cause of critical material shortages and schedule delays and initiates action to correct these problems. Advises supervision and Engineering with suppliers concerning remedial action, part rework, or fabrication to ensure that work progresses on schedule. Confers with authoritative personnel in the above-mentioned departments to locate needed material, have damaged material repaired, arrange for material transportation, and determine how shortages will affect schedules. Keeps departments informed about completion dates, material changes or substitutions, and schedule modifications. Maintains shortage list in all phases of procurement and manufacturing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Know and follow general company and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Know, understand, and follow department policies and procedures.
  • Keeps departments informed about completion dates, material changes or substitutions, and schedule modifications.
  • Tracks production jobs in manufacturing control database.
  • Maintains shortage list in all phases of procurement and works with manufacturing to maximize lot sizes being processed with suppliers.
  • Compiles purchase orders and product specifications to support manufacture of products.
  • Investigates the cause of critical shortages and schedule delays and initiates action to correct these problems.
  • Coordinates between production departments and program management to resolve production issues.
  • Advises Management and Engineering concerning remedial action, part rework, and fabrication to ensure that work progresses on schedule.
  • Confers with authoritative personnel in the above-mentioned departments to locate needed material, have damaged material repaired, arrange for material transportation, and determine how shortages will affect schedules.
  • Manages the drivers and their workflow.
  • Other various duties as needed or as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • College or university degree or program certificate; five years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in multiple Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Knowledge of business systems, including MRP, required. 
  • Familiarity with price indices in the marketplace. 
  • Familiarity with current machining and other manufacturing processes.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence, for both internal and external distribution. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals or groups.
  • Ability to evaluate and analyze complex quotes and proposals. 
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
