Job Description Summary:

CBCL (Case-Based Collaborative Learning) sessions are structured educational experiences for M1 and M2 students facilitated by faculty. CBCL is designed to foster active learning, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving among medical students. The structured time allocation ensures faculty are supported in delivering high-quality educational experiences. Faculty facilitate the sessions for the same small group of 7-8 students during the academic year.

Job Description:

Job Duties Outlined: 

  • Before a session, the facilitator should review all materials pertinent to the case. This includes any readings or other pre-work that the students will receive in addition to a guide created especially for the facilitator which covers key points and learning objectives for the session. 

  • Guide the discussion andpromote self-directed learning and intellectual inquiry during small groups.  

  • Empower students to work through the case themselves by creating a teaching environment that succeeds in achieving input from all students in the small group sessions.  

  • Facilitators should intervene if students are clearly off track, rushing to conclusions too quickly, or if there is not equal participation among team members, etc. 

  • Demonstrate professionalism in communication skills, ethical behavior, and respect with students and colleagues. The facilitator does not lecture, but is still responsible for ensuring key learning objectives are achieved.  

  • Provide brief written assessment for each student after the CBCL session.

Required Qualifications:

 

Education:MD, DO, EdD, PsyD, D. Sc, Sc.D, or PhD degree
