Job Summary
The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining and caring for the parish’s outdoor property, including landscaped areas, parking lots, walkways, and sacred spaces such as prayer gardens, statues, and cemetery grounds (if applicable). This role helps ensure the church campus reflects the beauty, reverence, and hospitality central to the Catholic faith.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, flower beds, and landscaped areas (mowing, trimming, edging, fertilizing)
- Care for and respectfully maintain religious features such as statues, grottos, shrines, Stations of the Cross, and memorial areas
- Assist with upkeep of parish cemetery grounds (if applicable), including mowing, trimming, and general appearance
- Remove debris, leaves, and litter from all outdoor areas
- Maintain sidewalks, entrances, and parking lots for safety and cleanliness
- Perform seasonal duties:
- Snow and ice removal in winter
- Leaf cleanup in fall
- Planting and mulching in spring/summer
- Monitor irrigation systems and ensure proper watering of grounds
- Operate and maintain landscaping equipment safely
- Assist with setup and cleanup for outdoor liturgical events (e.g., processions for Easter, Palm Sunday, Corpus Christi)
- Ensure outdoor areas are safe, accessible, and welcoming for parishioners and visitors
- Report maintenance issues, hazards, or vandalism promptly
Job Requirements
- Experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or facility maintenance preferred
- Ability to operate lawn care and maintenance equipment
- Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift moderate weights
- Basic knowledge of plant care and seasonal landscaping practices
- Dependable and able to work independently
