Job Description

 

At Blount Rural Health Center, our goal is to provide the highest quality of care to our patients. The Referral Specialist plays a crucial role in providing timely and efficient out of clinic consults to our patients. This role must collaborate effectively with all other members of the medical team. The Referral Specialist must also communicate effectively with other medical facilities and insurance entities and is expected to represent Blount Rural Health Center with utmost professionalism. This job description entails the responsibilities of the Referral Specialist; however, this is not an all-inclusive list as the position requires flexibility and acceptance of other tasks as assigned.



Job Duties:

  • Strong Organization Skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to creatively solve problems and access information from a variety of sources
  • Ability to interact comfortably with people at various levels
  • Referral coordination for out of clinic consults (OCC)
  • Collect proper supporting data for each referral before sending to Specialist
  • Schedule appointments for Specialty services as requested by primary care provider
  • Respond to inquiries as to status of referral by assessing the request and evaluating the circumstances to provide the correct information
  • Complete prior authorizations with insurance companies and other entities via phone, in writing or electronically
  • Inform patient of appointment date, time and required documents needed prior to appointment
  • Provide patient instruction prior to appointment and stress importance of keeping their scheduled specialist appointment(s)
  • Document in patient record all information related to prior authorizations, appointment scheduling and patient instructions
  • Log referrals and appointments
  • Review logs weekly for monitoring of reports/results of referrals, follow up, no shows
  • Keep Medical Records request logbook updated and reconciled
  • Ability to prioritize essential task
  • Electronic Documentation for related payment reimbursement
  • Assist with accepting and making phone calls and patient messages
  • Other duties as needed
  • Knowledge of ICD 10 and CPT Codes

 

Physical Requirements:

Required to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist frequently throughout the day. May be required to lift up to 40 pounds, as needed.
