This is an impactful individual contributor role where you'll drive strategic risk reduction, continuous improvement, and operational excellence while supporting a workforce of 100–150 associates.
What You'll DoÂ
Lead Safety Culture:Â Champion a proactive culture of safety, accountability, and engagement across all facility operationsÂ
Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Interpret and implement federal, state, and local EHS laws; maintain compliance with environmental permits and programs (waste, wastewater, air, and other regulatory requirements)Â
Manage Risk:Â Lead comprehensive risk assessments, conduct facility inspections and audits, and implement preventive measures to reduce organizational exposureÂ
Develop & Deliver Training:Â Design, deliver, and evaluate EHS training programs on safe work practices and environmental requirements for all personnelÂ
Investigate Incidents: Conduct thorough root cause analyses of safety and environmental incidents; establish effective prevention methodsÂ
Coordinate Emergency Response: Maintain emergency response protocols and comprehensive incident documentationÂ
Build Relationships:Â Develop collaborative working relationships with regulatory agencies, fire departments, wastewater authorities, and internal cross-functional teams
Maintain VPP Status: Collaborate with plant and divisional teams to maintain and advance Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) statusÂ
Drive Continuous Improvement:Â Develop tools for measuring and reporting the effectiveness of safety and environmental initiativesÂ
Manage Contractor Safety: Establish and oversee contractor safety requirements, permitting processes, and compliance activitiesÂ
Support Case Management:Â Partner with HR and Operations on injury case management and return-to-work activitiesÂ
Report & Communicate:Â Generate analytical reports, track trends, and communicate EHS performance metrics to all levels of the organizationÂ
Education & ExperienceÂ
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field — OR equivalent experienceÂ
Manufacturing or operations environment experience preferredÂ
OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulatory knowledge requiredÂ
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification preferredÂ
Key Skills & CompetenciesÂ
Strong safety leadership with the ability to influence and engage diverse teamsÂ
Expert knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulationsÂ
Proven experience in risk assessment, hazard analysis, and incident investigation (root cause analysis)Â
Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and training skillsÂ
Proficiency in data analysis, trend identification, and compliance reportingÂ
Experience with EHS management systems (ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001) and VPP programsÂ
Strong understanding of industrial hygiene principlesÂ
Crisis management and emergency response coordination experienceÂ
Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneouslyÂ
Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal teams, management, and external regulatory agenciesÂ
Learning agility — ability to quickly adapt to new regulatory changes and industry best practicesÂ
Work Environment & Physical RequirementsÂ
Split time between office environment and manufacturing floorÂ
Typical Monday–Friday schedule; must be available for emergency response outside normal business hoursÂ
Exposure to manufacturing environment including industrial equipment, varying temperatures, noise above 85db, solvents, inks, and fumesÂ
Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs/ladders, work on elevated platforms, and wear required PPEÂ
Occasional lifting up to 25 poundsÂ
Occasional travel to support locations, regulatory meetings, and training sessionsÂ
