Under the supervision of the Director of Residence Life and Housing, the Residence Hall Director assists in executing the mission of the Residence Life program, which is to create an environment of authentic Christian community that is conducive to healthy living and academic pursuits. The Residence Hall Director is a live-in staff member who provides oversight, programming, accountability, and support to a residence hall of up to 265 students. Additionally, the Residence Hall Director serves the larger campus community by providing regular on-call coverage, providing administrative support for the Housing Office, and serving on committees and projects to help develop the Residence Life Program.Â

Residence Hall ManagementÂ
Ensuring the health and safety of residentsÂ
Reporting and following up on maintenance issuesÂ
Maintaining a schedule of student staff coverage for the residence hall Â
Managing the opening and closing operations of the residence hallÂ
Facilitating room assignments and re-assignments as neededÂ
Providing regular programming opportunities, ad adequately maintaining the programming budget for the residence hallÂ
Student SupportÂ
Maintaining regular contact with students living in assigned residence hallÂ
Providing direct intervention as needed for behavioral, social, academic, or other issues that may ariseÂ
Mediating conflict between residents and advising administrative staff about appropriate resolutionÂ
Serving as a liaison between residents and the Dean of Student LifeÂ
Communicating with residents regarding university events, hall programming, and administrative needsÂ
Referring students to appropriate campus resources as neededÂ
Ensuring student records are appropriately maintained and follow all relevant privacy laws
Student Staff DevelopmentÂ
Participating in recruitment and training of Residence Life student staffÂ
Supervising a student staff of up to twelve Resident Assistants and Residence Hall LeadersÂ
Conducting weekly meetings with student staff to coordinate administrative efforts and develop staffÂ
Conducting regular meetings with individual staff members for ongoing training and supportÂ
Campus SupportÂ
Serving in regular on-duty rotations as scheduled throughout the semesterÂ
Serving in an on-duty capacity 1-2 weekends per month as scheduled throughout the calendar yearÂ
Maintaining adequate communication with student staff across campus while on dutyÂ
Representing University of the Cumberlands and Residence Life to other departments and/or external constituents as neededÂ
Assisting in crisis response and emergency management according to provided trainingÂ
Faithfully enforcing university policies and standards of conduct with all studentsÂ
Reporting and following up on conduct violations in a timely and professional mannerÂ
Administrative SupportÂ
Attending regular Residence Life staff meetingsÂ
Participating in training and orientation sessionsÂ
Attending regular meetings with Director of Residence Life and Housing and Area Coordinator for ongoing training and supportÂ
Maintaining appropriate communication with other Residence Life staff membersÂ
Serving on assigned department committees and project groupsÂ
Representing Residence Life in the Housing Office during the day by assisting students and/or families as neededÂ
Representing Residence Life at Admissions events, Commencement, and other campus events as neededÂ
Performing other duties as assignedÂ
Minimum QualificationsÂ
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited universityÂ
Experience in residence hall/student personnel managementÂ
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office SuiteÂ
Effective oral and written communication skillsÂ
Demonstrated personal commitment to the principles and values of the University of the CumberlandsÂ
Preferred QualificationsÂ
In-process or completed Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Education, Counseling, or another related fieldÂ
Experience in crisis management and interventionÂ
Ability to be flexible and solve complex problems in an appropriate and timely mannerÂ
Familiarity with The Housing Director and/or Guardian softwareÂ
