Overview:

Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center is hiring a Full-time Operational Pharmacy Specialist for our Inpatient Pharmacy in Williamsburg, VA.

Location: Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, Williamsburg, VA

Status: Full Time

Shift: Rotating (8 hours, 5 days)

Hours: 6:00 am - 11:00 pm*

Weekends: Approximately two Weekends every six weeks

Holiday Rotation

*Hours may vary to meet needs of the pharmacy, may be required to work within the hours of 6am-11pm and provide occasional weekend coverage as needed.

The Operational Pharmacy Specialist participates in the medication-use system while delivering comprehensive and individualized pharmaceutical care to patients. Assumes local and system responsibility and accountability for specialized areas of pharmacy operations (e.g., compounding, drug diversion, quality, and safety).

  • Ensures the appropriateness of all provider medication orders in maintaining a high level of patient care and safety

  • Participates in the training of new employees and the development of training materials

  • Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements

  • Precepts pharmacy students and/or pharmacy residents as assigned in operational oversight of area of practice

  • Leads the implementation of various system initiatives at both local and system levels
    Serves as a system expert and site lead in specialized pharmacy operations in area of practice (e.g., compounding, drug diversion, quality, and or safety)

  • Resource for the staff on operational issues related to pharmacy practice

  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed

  • May be responsible for pharmacist-in-charge (PIC) duties when applicable

Education

  • Bachelor's Level Degree in Pharmacy (Required)

  • Doctorate Level Degree in Pharmacy (Preferred)

Certification/Licensure

  • Virginia Pharmacist License (Required)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (Preferred)

Experience

  • Inpatient Hospital Pharmacist Experience (Preferred)
