Job Description Summary:

The Center for Energy Law & Policy serves as a hub for convening policymakers, scholars, and students to address critical issues shaping the future of energy law, policy and regulation. The Program Coordinator will work closely with the Center Director in coordinating and organizing major conferences, panels, and other events hosted by the Center, which create a space for rigorous and balanced dialogue at the intersection of energy and environmental advocacy, industry needs, and public interest.
Responsibilities include:
• Assist the Center Director in creating and administering new events by corresponding with guest speakers / interacting with law student volunteers, organizing conferences and promoting the Center's activities through the Center's website and social media.
• Act as a liaison for all events to participants to manage all travel/transportation, lodging, parking, registration, reimbursements, and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit requirements.
• Work with the Law School's IT department on continuous improvement of the Center's website, on organizing webinars and other online events, and using social media to promote the Center's activities.
• Other duties as assigned related to advancing the purposes of the Center.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.

  • Experience in a busy, professional office environment.

  • Demonstrates outstanding organizational, administrative, and customer service skills.

  • Demonstrates strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills for developing effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external constituents and VIPs.

  • Basic graphic design experience, using Canva or similar software.

  • Knowledge of basic office technology (phone, copier, fax, scanning, etc.).

  • Basic knowledge of, and skill in, the use of web-based communications, including social media.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some post high school education such as an associate degree or administrative certifications.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel and Outlook).

  • Basic knowledge of event design and event flow, familiarity with the event planning process, and some experience with planning and coordinating events.

  • Experience with booking travel and lodging.

  • Experience with maintaining a budget.

  • Experience with programming websites and online events such as webinars.

 

Conditions of Employment: 

  • This position offers a flexible work schedule with some remote work opportunities (not full-time). An occasional evening or weekend may be required. The slowest period is December and January. The busiest period is August through the first weekend in October.

  • This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.

  • All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed, on average, 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve month period beginning May 1 each year.

Hiring Range: Up to $21.00/hour
