UPMC Williamsport is looking for a motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our inpatient team! If you are looking for a new opportunity and have an interest in working in a hospital pharmacy environment, we invite you to apply today! This position is full-time (40 hours/week) on the day shift (7AM - 3:30PM), including rotation to evening shift as needed (2:30PM - 11PM). Every other weekend and a minimum of two holidays per year.

General Duties

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.
  • Ensure safe and secure storage of all medications in compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
  • Comply with Federal and State laws (e.g., HIPAA), OSHA regulations, and PBM contracting requirements (e.g., FWA and CMS).
  • Maintain all required documentation, including: Eye wash logs, Refrigerator logs, Perpetual inventory logs.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement activities to enhance pharmaceutical care.
  • Use computer systems to process and maintain patient information and pharmacy records.
  • Finalize sales using the cash register and follow proper cash handling procedures.
  • Audit and maintain accurate records for controlled substances, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
  • Procure and maintain adequate inventory levels in: Pharmacy medication stock rooms, Automated medication carousels, Automated dispensing machines.
  • Provide and receive information via phone, in person, or in writing to hospital personnel, patients, and visitors. Refer drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists.
  • Maintain and update: Automated medication stations, Unit and department stock, Emergency boxes, Crash carts
  • Filling Duties

  • Work in the Sterile Product area preparing cytotoxic and hazardous drugs (e.g., chemotherapy) using proper aseptic technique.
  • Assist in filling medication orders through correct labeling, counting, and stocking practices. Initial and date products as required.
  • Prepare oral and injectable medications (including IV admixtures and TPN) for the correct patient at the appropriate time using proper technique.
  • Distribution Duties

  • Develop and maintain positive and productive service relationships during medication distribution.
  • Participate in the distribution of medications, including: Medication cassettes, Emergency medication carts, Delivery of controlled substances per policy and regulations, Retrieve discontinued medications and return/credit them to the appropriate pharmacy area.
  • Investigational Duties

  • Assist in the procurement, accountability, storage, preparation, and distribution of investigational and study drugs.

Ā Pharmacy Assistant

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required

    Pharmacy Technician, Associate

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required AND one of the following:

    • Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program
    • Six months of previous pharmacy technician experience
    • Six months experience as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health System
    • Enrollment in an undergraduate pharmacy program and in good standing

    Ā 

    Pharmacy Technician, Intermediate

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent or Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program AND one of the following:

    Ā 

    • Two years of previous Pharmacy Technician experience or enrollment in good standing as a pharmacy student

      Ā 

    Demonstrated competency in THREE (3) of the following FOURTEEN (14) skills:

    Ā 

  1. Adjudication/Billing
  2. Automation
  3. Chemotherapeutic Preparation
  4. Controlled Substance Handling
  5. Decentral Participation
  6. Inventory Processes
  7. Medication Access and Adherence
  8. Medication Reconciliation
  9. Non‑Sterile Packaging

  11. Order Entry
  12. Prior Authorization Processing
  13. Quality Improvement
  14. Sterile Compounding

Pharmacy Technician, Senior

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent or Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician programĀ AND Three years of previous pharmacy technician experience.Ā 

    Pharmacy Technician Certification required.

    Ā 

    Demonstrated competency in SIX (6) of the following FOURTEEN (14) skills:

  1. Adjudication/Billing

  4. Controlled Substance Handling
  5. Decentral Participation
  6. Inventory Processes
