Job Summary

The Warehouse Shipping & Receiving Clerk reports to the Warehouse Manager and coordinates inbound receiving activities and driver check-in. This position verifies shipping documentation, processes receipts in the Warehouse Management System (WMS), maintains accurate records, and communicates with drivers, carriers, customers, and warehouse personnel. The role supports the safe, accurate, and timely receipt of products while maintaining inventory accuracy, product traceability, and food-safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Greet and check in inbound drivers and verify delivery appointments, bills of lading, packing slips, and carrier documentation.

• Confirm shipment details and assign dock doors based on scheduled deliveries and warehouse requirements.

• Communicate unloading instructions, facility procedures, and safety requirements to drivers.

• Record driver arrival and departure times, trailer numbers, seal numbers, carrier information, and dock assignments.

• Process inbound freight transactions accurately in the WMS.

• Verify product quantities, item numbers, lot numbers, expiration dates, and pallet counts against receiving documentation.

• Inspect inbound shipments for visible damage, shortages, overages, broken seals, or other discrepancies.

• Document and communicate receiving discrepancies to supervisors, carriers, customers, and inventory control personnel.

• Apply receiving labels and ensure accurate product identification and traceability.

• Coordinate with warehouse personnel to support timely unloading, inspection, and put-away of received products.

• Maintain receiving reports, appointment schedules, logs, and documentation for inventory and audit purposes.

• Assist with inventory reconciliation, cycle counts, and physical inventory activities.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving area and dock office.

• Follow all company safety, security, food-safety, and quality requirements.

• Provide professional customer service to drivers, carriers, customers, and internal departments.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ability to review and accurately process shipping and receiving documentation.

• Basic computer skills and ability to learn WMS and inventory systems.

• Strong attention to detail, organization, and recordkeeping skills.

• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with drivers, carriers, customers, and coworkers.

• Ability to identify, document, and escalate shipment or inventory discrepancies.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

• Reliable attendance and punctuality consistent with the requirements of the position.

• Previous shipping, receiving, warehouse, inventory, or logistics experience preferred.

• Ability to work scheduled overtime, weekends, or holidays as operational needs require.

• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Working/Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.

Ability to bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive handling activities.

Ability to lift and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance or approved material-handling equipment as needed.

Ability to work near loading docks, trailers, moving warehouse equipment, and vehicle traffic.

Ability to work in areas that may be noisy, wet, or temperature-variable.

Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and follow all safety and food-safety requirements.
