JOB DESCRIPTION

Distinguished Features of the Class:

The work involves serving as an EMT lab assistant. Duties will include supervising students in EMS lab while practicing skills, ensuring a safe environment for students while in the lab, and serving as a victim actor. Additional duties include setting up equipment and supplies for lab, putting away equipment and supplies afterward, restocking kits, and sanitizing manikins and equipment after use. The EMT Instructional Support Specialist works under the supervision of a lead Certified Instructor Coordinator.

Typical Work Activities:

  • Sets up supplies and equipment for lab.

  • Operates simulation manikins, including logging in, connection to vital sign simulation monitor and feedback devices, and on-the-fly programming of simulation manikins.

  • Applies moulage (fake wounds) for case-based scenarios training.

  • Supervises students while in the lab to ensure a safe and inclusive environment.

  • Assist the lead CIC with organization of course records.

  • Reports equipment maintenance and repair needs to the lead Certified Instructor Coordinator or Department Chair.

  • Sanitizes and puts away supplies and equipment after labs.

  • Assists with simple routine maintenance of equipment and supplies such as removing and storing batteries to avoid corrosive damage of equipment and replacing lungs in CPR manikins.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Candidates must:

  • Possess a high level of didactic knowledge and psychomotor skill competence at the Emergency Medical Technician-Basic level or higher.

  • Be able to demonstrate awareness and sensitivity toward promoting an inclusive and diverse learning environment.

  • be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and familiarity with EMS equipment and supplies at the EMT level.

  • At least 2 years emergency medical services field experience.

  • Current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provider certification with the NYS Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.

  • Candidates interested in advancing to adjunct instruct will be supported in attaining their credentials. With satisfactory job performance, individuals gaining further credentials will be prioritized for advancement when a position is available in the EMT department that they are now qualified for.

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma with preference given to individuals who possess a college degree.

  • New York State Certified Lab Instructor (CLI) credential is preferred. If hired, candidates who do not posses CLI credentials will be required to gain the CLI credential within 2 years or their hire date.

  • American Heart Association CPR Instructor certification is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Official transcripts will be required for successful candidates within 30 days of hire.
