Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Medical Surgical Nurse at CHI Williston Health, you’ll excel in your nursing career by providing care to patients admitted to our unit. Most of your patients are funneled in from other units providing you with the opportunity to build on your education and experience in specialized service lines such as cardiac, telemetry, orthopedics, neurology, critical care, surgical services, and emergency.

Keen assessment skills, critical thinking, and a sense of urgency support your career advancement and you thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment where you will rarely experience the same day twice.

  • Assesses patient’s health and continuously monitors; detect changes in symptoms, health or pain, and take action as necessary; and quickly and accurately assess patient care needs
  • Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol 
  • Sets priorities in plan of care based on assessed needs and anticipates personnel, supplies, and equipment required to care for patients based on assessed needs
  • Works collaboratively with provider to provide exceptional care
  • Administers medications, IV therapy, and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures
  • Provides patient and family education
  • Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms
  • Maintains order, stock, and cleanliness of all areas in the Medical-Surgical Unit
  • Practices safe work habits, compliance with safety rules and regulations, and adheres to safety policies
  • Utilizes resources appropriately and follows facility guidelines, policies, and procedures

Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience 

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing  

Required Licensure and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse: North Dakota or compact RN license (RN:ND), Required Upon Hire. 
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support  - CPR (BLS-CPR), Required Upon Hire. 
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Required within 6 months of start. 
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Required within 6 months of start.
