DAI Ceramics, located in Willoughby, OH has an immediate full-time opening for: Process Engineer

Reports to: General Manager

With more than 30 years’ experience in the manufacture of ceramic cores used in the casting of gas turbine engine components for aerospace, medical, and industrial applications, DAI Ceramics is at the cutting edge of ceramic core technology. Summary of duties and responsibilities:

Independently execute projects targeted at new process or product development and/or process improvement for current processes by acquiring/coordinating necessary resources to meet technical, financial, and timing needs of the organization.


Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Coordinate assigned tasks related to new product introductions including tool design, develop process parameters, first article sample production, dimensional and yield review, meet published milestones in order to deliver parts to customer on time.
  • Monitor assigned processes and products to maintain desired quality and yield levels.
  • Identify root cause of quality or yield short falls. Design and run trials to make improvements. Closely track progress of trials through the process and summarize results upon completion.
  • Modify current or create new process work instructions for plant employees.
  • Evaluate process methods and identify potential areas for productivity improvement. Test new methods and implement. 
  • Regularly report out progress on key projects to General Manager.
  • Spend significant time on the floor daily interfacing with plant employees and area supervisors to de-bug and resolve process problems.
  • Provide technical support to Sales in regard to material & process capability.


Education, Prior Work Experience, Specialized Skills, Knowledge Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering or Materials Science preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Process or Product Engineer preferred.
  • Injection molding or extrusion experience preferred 
  • Basic understanding of Firing controls, for both gas and electric kilns
  • Hands-on self-starter who can organize and manage multiple projects. Ability to independently assess results and make decisions on project direction to drive meaningful results.
  • Advanced computer skills needed, including proficient use of Microsoft 365
  • Strong root cause and data analysis skills. Experience with MINITAB or similar statistical software a plus. Effective follow-through to drive continuous improvement.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt and Lean Manufacturing knowledge a plus.
  • Must have experience interfacing with customers regarding technical requirements, specifications, and product related issues.
  • Effective verbal & written communication skills required.


Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: viewing a computer terminal; reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
  • Working in a manufacturing environment
