Job Summary:

CDL Truck driver’s responsible for transporting raw materials and finished goods to and from distribution centers and customer's locations.

 

Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Responsibilities):

  • Transport raw materials and finished goods to and from distribution centers and customer's locations.
  • Inspect vehicles for mechanical items, safety issues and conduct preventive maintenance as necessary. Identify need for repairs and/or maintenance of truck and trailers. Report and explain defects or deficiencies to management.
  • Use Electronic Data Log (ELD) system to document and log work/rest periods.
  • Comply with all DOT rules and regulations regarding operating a Class A vehicle with Hazmat cargo, including maintaining proper placarding.
  • Safely load and unload bulk and other container quantities of hazardous materials.
  • Provide a high level of customer service while unloading product safely at customer use point.
  • Driving will constitute the majority of the work day, with the remaining portion to be taken up by other activities including, loading and delivering, customer contact, basic trailer maintenance, vehicle pre and post trip inspections.
  • Other misc. duties as necessary or as develop over time.

 

Qualifications (Knowledge, skills, and abilities):

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

              Required:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Valid CDL Class A with tanker and hazmat endorsements.
  • At least five years of verifiable CDL Class A driving experience.
  • Current medical examiner's certificate or ability to pass DOT physical.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Must have ability to obtain TWIC card (pass TWIC background check).

 

Skills & Ability

  • Ability to drive safely for long periods of time and under varying conditions.
  • Ability to climb to a height of up to 15 feet.

 

Safety Expectations

  • Maintain and promote safe practices and procedures in accordance with regulatory agencies.
  • Drive in a safe manner following all the rules and regulations of the road.
  • Ensure availability of personal protective equipment.

 

 Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Prolonged periods of standing and sitting.
  • Requires lifting and handling of heavy objects; must be able to lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to push, pull, sit, stand, crouch, reach, and have visual acuity.
  • Ability to climb ladders and storage tank stairs (approx. 50' in height) for maintenance, inspection, and gauging operations.
  • Work outdoors in adverse weather conditions
  • Able to run & help maintain process equipment.
  • Able to wear PPE (e.g., hard hat, safety glasses, respirator and safety work boots) as required.

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • This hourly position is scheduled to work 50 to 60 hours weekly depending on order patterns. Drivers are typically home daily with occasional weekend work, overtime pay after 40 hours each week, with double-time pay for Sunday work.
