Controller

This job is onsite at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare corporate office located in Wilmington, NC.


JOB SUMMARY 

The Controller is responsible for managing the daily technical functions of the accounting division including accounts payable, cash receipting, miscellaneous receivables, payroll, management of general ledger, and statistical/financial reporting.  This position also oversees the patient finance (billing) department. This position carries out assigned administrative tasks as specific to the functional operation of the corporate office. Supervises and coordinates activities of supporting staff. Additionally, the controller will be responsible for working the leaders to develop agency and foundation budgets. Maintains a close interpersonal working relationship with all agency staffs. Performs other duties as requested. 

  

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES 

1. Ensures the agency’s accounting system is in compliance with GAAP, licensure and legal requirements, setting standards of performance in consultation with the Vice President of Finance, Business Excellence & Strategy and secures an adequate audit trail. 

2. Develops and implements all policies and procedures within the financial accounting division and works closely with all agency managers in developing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP. Ensures compliance to established policies and procedures. 

3. Oversees, assigns, regulates and verifies the accuracy of all activities within the financial accounting division to include patient finance (billing), data entry, cash receipting, accounts payable, payroll, general ledger and statistical/financial reporting.  

4. Supervises division staff in accordance with agency policy and procedures. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. 

5. Assists Vice President of Finance, Strategy, and Performance Optimization with the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets. Specifically working with support area leaders on updates and revisions to their budgets.  

6. Oversee internal audit processes, manage control management and ensure annual completeness.  

7. Prepares all supplemental financial reports as requested by the Agency Board of Directors, Agency Senior Management Team, and as required by legal and government entities. 

8. Organizes and performs work effectively and efficiently. 

9. Maintains and adjusts schedule to enhance program performance. 

10. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with all members of the team. 

11. Maintains and promotes customer satisfaction. 

12. Effectively demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare on a daily basis. 

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS 

1. Education:  Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accountancy/Finance from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

2. Licensure / Certifications:  CPA preferred. 

3. Experience:  5 years of related experience to include supervisory experience. Experience with patient financial services preferred.  

4. Essential Technical / Motor Skills:  Working knowledge of Windows and word processing. Proficient knowledge of electronic spreadsheets. 

5. Interpersonal Skills:  Excellent interpersonal skills required.  Teamwork and communication skills essential for dealing with agency team as well as outside contacts.   

6. Essential Physical Requirements: Long periods of sitting or standing, walking, lifting, and carrying files and supplies, reaching, stooping, long periods of data entry/file updates. 

7. Essential Mental Abilities:  Prioritizing and good organizational skills required.  Ability to concentrate with large volumes of work, handle pressure of deadlines, good judgment, ability to follow procedures, ability to work independently and with frequent interruptions.  High level problem solving and reasoning skills. 

8. Essential Sensory Requirements:  Visual acuity, touch, hearing. 

9. Exposure to Hazards:  Office environment, toner for office machines, high pitch of printers, screen glare. 

10. Other - Hours of Work:  Full time, salaried position.  Occasional need for flexible hours to meet system scheduling needs of staff and agency.
