Electrical Engineer

Wilmington Machinery – Wilmington, North Carolina

Job Description

Wilmington Machinery is a recognized leader in developing innovative blow molding and injection molding machines and processes that produce high-output packaging and structural plastic parts. We have an opening for an Electrical Engineer to support all machine builds.

This position is responsible for the complete electrical design of Wilmington Machinery equipment. Working closely with controls and mechanical engineering, you will create fully integrated, functional machines. The ability to select electrical components, design electrical panels, create schematics and BOMs, and thoroughly document designs using AutoCAD (AutoCAD Electrical preferred) is essential. Troubleshooting, testing, and production floor support of electrical systems are also required.


Responsibilities

•       Specify electrical components for all machine builds
•       Create and publish bills of material, panel layouts, and electrical schematics
•       Maintain redlines and revisions to electrical documents and publish updates to engineering
•       Work closely with controls and mechanical engineering to deliver a fully integrated electrical package
•       Ensure designs comply with relevant machine safety standards (including NFPA 79) and applicable electrical codes
•       Specify power requirements and distribution for machine concepts involving significant hydraulic, pneumatic, and motion systems
•       Provide production floor support, troubleshooting, and testing of electrical systems
•       Communicate promptly and effectively with colleagues across engineering, production, and service


Skills Required

•       Strong understanding of the integration of electrical systems, controls, and hydraulic/pneumatic valving on industrial machinery
•       Ability to specify power requirements, motor control, and I/O systems appropriate for large industrial machines
•       Ability to specify electrical components (I/O, power supplies, drives, etc.) according to the latest electrical codes (NFPA) and machine requirements
•       Ability to create accurate electrical schematics, panel layouts, and multi-level BOMs
•       Proficiency with AutoCAD; AutoCAD Electrical experience preferred
•       Hands-on experience with multimeters and common electrical hand tools
•       Proven troubleshooting, testing, and production floor support skills
•       Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite


Education and Experience Required

•       Minimum 2-year degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
•       Minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial electrical design for custom machinery or primary processing equipment
•       Experience designing electrical systems for large industrial machines with significant hydraulic/pneumatic content and motion systems (plastics machinery experience strongly preferred)
•       Experience in industrial controls integration


Preferred Qualifications

•       Familiarity with NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery) and machine safety standards
•       Experience with servo systems, VFDs, and industrial networking
•       Prior experience supporting plastics processing equipment (injection molding, structural foam, or blow molding)
•       Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional engineering and production environment
