Description

This on-site position is located in Wilmington, Delaware. The Catholic Diocese of Wilmington is seeking a Junior Accountant who will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting, recording deposits, monitoring bank accounts, reconciling bank statements, and preparing and recording accounting transactions for Catholic Charities and the Diocese of Wilmington. 


The schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, but may require occasional days or times outside the normal work schedule, as needed.


Essential Functions:

  • Reconcile bank accounts daily and monthly to ensure all deposits, withdrawals, and transactions are accurately recorded and supported. 
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including reconciliations, account analysis, and preparation of supporting documentation. 
  • Prepare and assist with journal entries, including accruals, prepayments, and adjustments, while analyzing balance sheet and general ledger accounts for accuracy and completeness. 
  • Develop an understanding of organizational and departmental budgets to ensure accounting entries, deposits, and expenses align with budget expectations.
  • Research and provide financial data, reports, and supporting documentation requested by Program Managers, auditors, and other departments. 
  • Analyze expense accruals to ensure expenses are recorded to the appropriate accounts and cost centers and prepare related accounting entries with supporting documentation. 
  • Collaborate with Diocesan development and other departments to monitor and properly allocate deposits to the appropriate accounts and departments. 
  • Research, identify, and assist in resolving accounts payable and receivable discrepancies and outstanding issues. 
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to resolve payment, billing, and account discrepancies in a timely and professional manner. 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • An aptitude for mathematics with the ability to analyze, compare and interpret facts and figures quickly.
  • Intermediate knowledge of accounting procedures/systems/reports.
  • Strong knowledge of computers and their applications such as basic accounting software and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities while meeting deadlines, in an extremely busy Finance Office
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate results both verbally and in writing. 
  • Detail oriented with ability to check/verify own work.
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with individuals from diverse cultural, socio-economic, and ethnic backgrounds,
  • Ability to safeguard access to confidential, or sensitive, information, and data.
  • Willingness to consent to a satisfactory criminal background check and drug screen in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the Diocese of Wilmington.
