CHEP is looking for a motivated Operations Supervisor (1st Shift) to join our team in Wilmington, MA!As a Plant Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for assisting the Plant Manager in managing total plant operations and delivering superior customer satisfaction by driving results and exceeding expectations in the key areas of safety, service, quality and cost.
Key Responsibilities May Include:
- Provide hands-on leadership by mentoring, coaching, and guiding employees, addressing employee relations issues, and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Lead and enhance safety performance on shift, promoting a proactive safety culture through training, accident prevention, and rehabilitation programs, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Manage shift maintenance activities, resolving equipment breakdowns in coordination with the maintenance team to maintain uninterrupted plant operations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives on shift, implementing best practices to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness across end to end operations.
- Monitor and manage the plant's operational costs and yield, working closely with the Plant Manager to optimize performance and contribute to the overall plant objectives.
- Address performance and attendance matters in collaboration with HR, ensuring that all plant staff meet operational expectations.
- Ensure full compliance with CHEP procedures and work instructions, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and in line with company standards and operational goals.
What You Will DoÂ
- Supervise the work of all production employees – oversees production and shipping schedules based on availability of raw and finished goods.Â
Provide hands-on leadership as a supervisor, responsible for mentoring and coaching all employees and working through employee relations issues.Â
Support plant administration to ensure compliance to established policiesÂ
Responsible, in consultation with Plant Manager, for the cost and yield performance of the Plant in partnership with the overall P&L of the Plant.Â
Support cost control initiatives and process control within the Plant.Â
Review operations activities, including local transportation activities, to maintain compliance with all Federal, State and local laws (OSHA, DOL, DOJ, EPA, FD)Â
Drive Safety improvements (Zero Harm) across the PlantÂ
Ensure the consistent execution of all SOPs throughout the Plant in accordance with the PMS Commercial Organization, Global Supply ChainÂ
Deliver best operational practices and cost efficiencies across the Plant while maintaining critical quality and raw material utilization standards that are necessary to maintain customer satisfaction and Plant profitability.Â
Ensure compliance through teamwork for all Standard Operating Procedures within the PlantÂ
Identify Lean opportunities to effectively eliminate waste Â
In partnership with Plant Manager, provide leadership to Plant staff to effectively recruit, train, develop, evaluate, motivate, delegate and monitor their activitiesÂ
Drive efficiencies in asset utilization through proper transportation scheduling, dispatch, & driver management while meeting customer expectationsÂ

What You Will BringÂ
Qualifications:Â
Bachelors in Operations/Supply Chain -or- relevant experience in a related fieldÂ
Six Sigma/Lean certification desirableÂ
​90% of workforce is Spanish speaking. Spanish and English skills are highly valued​
Â
Experience:Â
Prior experience in a plant supervisory role in an engineering or manufacturing environmentÂ
Familiarity with private fleet management/transportation is helpfulÂ
Strong customer focus orientationÂ
Strong people management capability including non-exempt production workforceÂ
Demonstrated success in delivering strong employee relationsÂ
Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionallyÂ
Experience managing safety performance and programsÂ
Understanding of supply chain practices and metrics Â

- 1st Shift Operations - Monday - Friday 6am - 2:30pm
- Approximately 25-30 direct reports
- Weekly production volumes - across 2 shifts: 40K sorted, 24K repairs

The salary range for this position is $62,000 - $90,000. Â
  Salary ranges provided take into account a wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications, geographic differentials and other business and organizational needs. Therefore, actual amounts offered may be higher or lower than the range provided.
