Job Title:

Payroll Manager (Exempt, salary) 

Reports To:

Controller of BPG Real Estate Services


Job Purpose 

The Payroll Manager is responsible for the submission, review and timely processing of BPG’s bi-weekly payroll, payroll tax compliance, general ledger reconciliation, and the execution of any related financial analyses/other tasks. This position oversees ADP which serves as our main payroll provider under their full-service offering. The highest level of confidentiality will be expected at all times for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for processing payroll for associates across all divisions
  • Enforce company policy regarding timecard submission and approvals
  • Oversee payroll changes that can be submitted directly by Associates (updating direct deposit details, withholdings, change of address) 
  • Submit other changes provided by managers, including, but not limited to allocation changes, title changes, increases, commissions, bonuses, etc.
  • Review payroll information and audit for accuracy in a timely fashion
  • Answer associate questions and investigate discrepancies related to payroll in a timely manner 
  • Validate accuracy of final pay for terminated employees, including PTO payout and final benefit deductions
  • Generate and understand payroll reports and journal entries provided to Accounting
  • Provide explanations for monthly payroll variance analyses, and maintain working relationship with Property Management team
  • Ensure payroll reports are distributed as needed
  • Manage funding and posting of payroll contributions for 401k and HAS
  • Update 401k deferrals based on Fidelity Feedback File weekly
  • Work with the payroll provider on payroll tax compliance items that may arise, and work with the provider on reconciling discrepancies, etc.
  • Ensure timely/accurate filing and deposits for Form 941, 940, and other payroll tax related documents
  • Maintain and update the payroll module as needed in ADP payroll system and create/generate reports
  • Assist Food & Beverage department with maintaining of payroll system, Toast
  • Manage and adhere to internal process for payroll checks and balances
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Strong attention to numerical accuracy and ability to deal effectively and courteously with a diverse group of internal and external contacts
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work successfully as an individually and collaboratively
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and be attentive to detail
  • Must have excellent time management skills
  • Requires analytical and reconciliation skills necessary to handle complex payroll and accounting inquiries and an ability to resolve them in a quick and efficient manner
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and computer skills 
  • A working knowledge of general accounting principles and payroll accounting
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or other related field required

Experience

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in processing payroll 
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now and Toast strongly preferred
  • Intermediate excel skills (vlookups, pivot tables, basic excel formulas, etc.) strongly preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Requires prolonged sitting.
  • Requires frequent operation of office equipment; such as a computer, copy machine, telephone, etc.
  • Occasional stretching and / or bending to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc.
  • Occasional standing and walking required. 

Direct Reports

None. Oversees third party processing services (ADP/Toast)
