Purpose

  • Responsible for the equipment and instrumentation in the endoscopy room. Responsible for assisting the physician during endoscopic procedures


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:


1. Philosophy

6. Safety/Risk Management Program

  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities

8. Duties

  • Performs specified functions to meet the requirements of each approved procedure
  • Assembles supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physicians' preference cards
  • Inspects equipment and instruments for proper working condition
  • Arranges equipment and instruments according to routine for given procedure
  • Maintains availability of instruments and supplies to avoid delays
  • Correctly utilizes, cares for instruments, supplies and equipment as directed
  • Assists the physician during procedure according to SGNA standards
  • Handles specimens appropriately and labels correctly
  • Cleans equipment according to infection control guidelines and manufactures guidelines
  • Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide appropriate availability and safety
  • Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the endoscopy room for immediate access during procedure
  • Assists in work area by cleaning and storing equipment and instruments according to manufacturer guidelines
  • Assists in storing and stocking of supplies as directed
  • Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and the physician
  • Documents patient care records and other forms according to facility policies and procedures
  • Reprocesses Endoscopes according to IC and Manufacturers guidelines




Surgical Technologist:

  • Assists other members of the OR team in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care duties.
  • Practices aseptic technique while assisting with all surgical procedures.
  • Ensures the readiness of the surgical suite.
  • Maintains professional standards and accountability by participating in in-services, committees, staffing needs.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives.
  • May perform moderate or waived point of care testing per CLIA guidelines.
  • Demonstrates standards of performance (ownership, teamwork, communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence.

 


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Cooperative work attitude toward and with co-employees, management, patients, visitors, and physicians
  • Ability to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, insurance companies, and general public
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems


REQUIREMENTS


Required

  • High school graduate or GED Certification
  • GI Technician experience
  • Strong ethical and moral character references


Preferred

  • Two years previous Endoscopy Room experience
  • Surgical Tech license/certification
  • ASC Experience
  • Previous medical experience
